Spring Cleaning: Easy tricks for cleaning your microwave
Rule #1. Do not use commercial oven cleaners in a microwave. To remove spatters from the interior of your microwave experts recommend mixing 1 cup water with 1/4 cup vinegar in a glass container. Place inside the microwave and boil (about 3 minutes). Then you should easily be able to wipe away spatters and grease with a damp cloth. Odors can be removed by pouring some vinegar in a dish and leaving to sit overnight in the microwave. If necessary, repeat until the odors are gone. For information on replacing your old dirty microwave with a shiny new one, contact the friendly folks at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center in Studio City. -

A new way to clean your oven - SteamClean from Whirlpool
How often do you clean your oven? Annually? Once every 6 months? Whenever it gets so dirty you can't stand it anymore? How would you like to be able to clean your oven with very little bother as often as you'd like so that it always looked nice? Whirlpool has a new oven cleaning system that allows you to clean your oven using only water and some heat to steam clean the oven. There are no harsh chemicals and very little energy is required. The trick is to clean the oven frequently - ie. whenever it gets dirty from usage. Using only a cup and a quarter of water in the bottom of the oven during a cleaning cycle, the oven creates some steam softens any lightly baked on material or soil which then is easy to wipe up. It's a clever idea, very effective, environmentally friendly and energy saving. To find out what ovens and ranges have this nifty feature visit Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center at 12050 Ventura Blvd. Suite B-105, Studio City, CA 91604 PH 877 696-2982. -

Spring Cleaning: Let's get that dishwasher clean!
To keep your dishwasher smelling fresh run a cycle (without dishes) using powdered lemonade instead of dishwashing detergent. Not only will this deodorize the dishwasher, but it will help remove the hard water stains. If your dishwasher interior just seems to retain odors put a few teaspoons of baking soda on the floor of the dishwasher and leave it overnight. Baking soda does a great job of absorbing odors and it will wash away during the next regular wash cycle. Finally, some dishwashers have filters that need cleaning. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's directions and clean out the filters often. -

Spring Cleaning: Cleaning that dirty oven
Tips for cleaning your oven. There are 3 types of oven interiors. self-cleaning, continuous cleaning, and conventional cleaning. Self-cleaning ovens are also described as pyrolytic ovens. They have a cleaning cycle whereby the oven locks and the interior temperature reaches very high heat and turns any baked on materials sticking to the oven interior into ash. The ash can be easily swept out of the oven after the cleaning cycle. Before cleaning remove the oven racks and any loose material and follow the oven instructions. Typically, this means the oven will lock for 2, 3, or 4 hours for light, medium, or heavy soil. At the end of the cycle and after cool down the oven will unlock so that you may brush out the ash. Then wipe the oven with a soft damp cloth. Continuous cleaning ovens, often referred to as catalytic ovens, have an oven coating that will absorb and spread minor spills. Large spills need to be removed and wiped off to prevent staining the oven cavity. Never use any abrasive material or commercial oven cleaner in a continuous cleaning oven. Conventional or standard cleaning ovens have neither a self-cleaning cycle nor a continuous cleaning coating. There are 2 ways to clean a standard cleaning oven. The first method we recognize as "elbow grease". An easier way is to use a commercial oven cleaning product. These are typically caustic chemicals so wear oven gloves and make sure that there is adequate ventilation so that your eyes are -

Does your outdoor kitchen need a dishwasher?
What? An outdoor dishwasher? You bet! Think about how practical this is to clean up after all your outdoor cooking. No dragging those dirty, dripping barbecue utensils back into the house. Cleanup is a snap because an outdoor rated dishwasher is now available. Outdoor rated means it is approved for outdoor use. It's just like an indoor dishwasher, with all the cleaning cycles and capacity, but sturdier, and protected from the outdoor environment. The wiring and electronics are reinforced to withstand harsh conditions of both cold and warm climates. Operationally, it works the same, and needs hookup to a water supply hose, a drain hose, and of course an electric cord. Your outdoor kitchen may have a grill, a refrigerator, even a pizza oven and microwave, but it's not complete without this new outdoor dishwasher from Asko. For pricing and more information contact Universal Kitchen and Bath Center at 12050 Ventura Blvd. Suite B-105, Studio City CA 91604, PH 877 696-2982. -

Spring Cleaning: 7 tips for maintenance of your refrigerator
As promised here is advice from the experts on cleaning and maintenance of your appliances. Today we'll cover the refrigerator. Future posts will cover your oven, dishwasher, vent hood, and microwave. To clean the cabinet exterior you can use any commercial kitchen cleaner or even baking soda. With baking soda, be sure to rinse throughly and dry with a soft cloth. If the cabinet is stainless steel, there are a variety of stainless steel cleaners available. Use sparingly to avoid streaking. Remove the front grill and vacuum under the front of the refrigerator. Clean the drip pan. Slide the refrigerator out and vacuum behind the refrigerator. Also vacuum the coils thoroughly. Clean the inside with a damp cloth. One expert recommends using a sponge soaked with vanilla extract to deodorize. Place an open box of baking soda in the refrigerator to absorb odors. Replace every 90 days. If you have a water dispenser check the filter and replace as recommended. Always replace at least once a year, regardless of usage. Check back in a day or two for tips and tricks on cleaning and maintaining your oven. For recommendations on a new refrigerator, be sure to check with your sales associate at Universal Kitchen and Bath Center at 12050 Ventura Blvd. Suite B-105, Studio City CA 91604 PH 877 696-2982 -

Where's that *#@& use and care manual?
Let's see, where did I put that use and care manual for my range. I think it must be in the storage drawer underneath the pots and pans. No? Well. let's check in the cabinet with all those other papers. Maybe, it's with all the documents we got when we closed on the house. No? Well, I'll be!! Guess I'll have to try to figure out how to set the clock and use the self-clean mode without the directions. *#@&. Here's a tip that will save you some time and effort locating use and care and other appliance instructions. Write down the model numbers of your appliances. It won't take but a minute to locate the silver stickers with the model and serial numbers. Then go online to the manufacturer's website and download the pdf file of the use and care manual for each appliance. Save them to a separate folder so that you have them whenever you need them. -
