Internet Enabled Appliances in 2014
Smart Appliances at CES Internet enabled appliances available today at UAKC LG Home Chat at CES 2014 They've got an APP for that! Each year appliance manufacturer's seem to use the January CES (Consumer Electronics Show) as a launchpad for their latest Jetson Style innovation. This year is no exception. LG Home Chat allows users to manage their connected appliances and devices with an SMS interface -- you'll literally be able to send your refrigerator, washing machine, robot vacuum, or other smart appliance a command or question via text message, then get a response. It pays to remember that more than a decade ago, it was at the CES that LG launched its $10,000 DIOS internet enabled refrigerator which is no longer being made, and Sun Microsystem's Scott McNealy showed a Whirlpool refrigerator paired with a tablet PC that never made it to market. Nevertheless, appliance manufacturer's are again sticking their toes into the internet waters hoping that they will not once again receive a chilly response. This time the high tech appliances don't just occupy "dream" space, but are a real part of their appliance lineup. Dacor Discovery iQ DYO230 Last year Dacor introduced it's internet connected Discovery IQ Oven in a single and double oven version. This week at the CES, Dacor unveiled a similarly enabled 6 burner range with an oven featuring the same Android powered OS. Here's the wall oven along with a writeup from Dacor highlighting its -

New Years Appliance Resolutions
Planning Your New Appliance Purchases Considerations for Buying New Appliances Here's a New Year Resolution list for planning your appliance purchases in 2014: Take inventory of your potential appliance needs by determining the age and condition of your existing appliances. If your washing machine is 12 years old, and has been making funny noises, you should anticipate that you'll be needing a new washer sooner rather than later. Budget for appliance replacement. Begin setting aside money to replace that clunky old washing machine. Even if you can fund part of the purchase from this appliance reserve fund, it might mean the difference between getting a "bare bones" product versus the one you really want and need. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) carries most major brands and models. For example, you can select a new washer from among great brand names such as Frigidaire, GE, LG, Maytag, and Whirlpool. Some appliances get replaced before they have failed, such as in a new kitchen remodel project. Here too, you can do some advance planning. If you're working with a design firm, they can help you get started. The professionals at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) are always there to answer your questions and guide you through the process. Appliances are a big part of a kitchen remodel. Don't blow your budget on granite countertops and fancy cabinets only to find out you can't afford the appliances you've always dreamed of. Allow sufficient upfront order and delivery time for special orders. -

Appliance Rebate Fulfillment
Getting your Appliance Rebate Paid Submitting your rebate paperwork for payment As we mentioned in our previous blog Important information about appliance rebates, appliance rebates and free with purchase appliance offers can add up. From a $50 installation rebate on a KitchenAid to over $6000 in FREE appliances from Thermador you can see that there is a lot of money at stake in these appliance manufacturer offers. Therefore, it's important to accurately complete rebate forms, and submit them on time. What might seem like a small technicality to you can result in a claim being rejected. Here are some things that you should know about claiming your appliance rebates: Purchase dates are firm. There really isn't any wiggle room here. Purchases must be made within the prescribed time, and invoices dated accordingly. Otherwise your claim will be rejected. Submission dates are firm. Rebate forms not only specify that the purchase must have occurred during the prescribed time, but that the claim be submitted and postmarked by a specific date. Accuracy is important. All t's must be crossed and i's must be dotted. Double check important details such as serial numbers, dates, and dollar amounts. Third parties often remove the dealer AND the manufacturer from the claims process. Appliance manufacturers typically hire other firms to handle the processing of claim payments. Don't expect that your sales associate will be able to help you with a rejected claim. They don't have much that they can do with these claim processing firms. The -

Choosing an Appliance Brand
Get the Appliance Brand that Fits UAKC Has Great Selection and Low Prices If you are building a home or remodeling, you'll need to think about selecting the appliance brand that best suits your needs. Just like clothing or automobiles, appliance brands make a "statement" and the brand you select should be a good fit for the house you are building or the kitchen you are remodeling. At Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center, (UAKC) the sales associates will help you select the appliances that are the right "fit" for you. Appliance brands can be categorized along dimensions such as price, lifestyle or even generational such as millenial, Gen X or Y, boomer, etc. To make it easy we combine and simplify along mass brands, premium, super premium, and luxury brands. Think of mass brands as including Frigidaire, GE, Maytag, and Whirlpool. Premium brands would include Bosch, GE Profile, GE Cafe, and KitchenAid. Among the super premium brands are Electrolux, Jenn-Air, and Thermador. Luxury brands include GE Monogram, Wolf Sub Zero, Gaggenau, Miele, and Viking. These are broad categories are there are no hard rules here so some appliance professionals will argue for example that Thermador could be included in the luxury category, and that Maytag laundry should be considered a premium brand. But you get the idea. These are ALL good respectable brands, but they are positioned by their companies with pricing and features to fit in certain niches. The reason it's important for consumers to have a general idea -

Appliance Packages that Look Great and Save Money
Reasons to Buy Appliance Packages Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Appliance Packages Customers want to know whether it's a good idea to buy appliances in a package or if it's better to just buy them one at a time. It really depends on your individual situation. For example, suppose your old countertop microwave oven goes out and you need to replace it. Obviously, this situation hardly calls for replacing all your kitchen appliances. At the other extreme, if you're building a new house, it only makes sense to install a complete updated set of appliances in your new home. You can certainly buy each appliance in your home separately and mix brands, but there are some very good reasons to buy a matching single brand kitchen package. A single brand and style will very likely give you a matched, integrated look. You could get very upset with a blue display on the controls of your oven accompanied by a green display on the built-in microwave above it - not to mention a bulky pro-style handle on your dishwasher and a sleek euro-style handle on the refrigerator. For some people, this wouldn't make a difference, but for others it would be a constant source of annoyance. It's great to have a unified look which not only ties the elements of your kitchen together, but also enhances resale value. A single brand kitchen can often save you a lot of money. Look for manufacturer rebates on multiple appliances or FREE goods -

Customers Write (26) Kristen "likes" UAKC on social media Kristen E. Altadena, CA So I've started looking up small businesses on Facebook and Twitter because I know a lot of them are starting to offer discounts to their social media fans, and since I just moved into a new place and need a bunch of new kitchen stuff, I thought I'd try to find some appliance places on these sites. Most of the places I searched for didn't have social media accounts, but I was pleased to find that UAKC does and they do indeed offer specials for their fans.
