Undercounter Appliances Gaining Popularity
Appliances that Fit Under Your Countertops Visit Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Not long ago the only appliances placed underneath a counter in most homes were the dishwasher and perhaps a trash compactor. Now, there are a host of appliances configured to fit underneath the counter. In fact, it's hard to think of a major appliance category that does not have products configured to work under a countertop. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center has a huge selection of appliances from many brands that will fit under your countertop. Among the reasons to install an appliance under a counter, would be not only to save counter space, but also for accessibility. It's also good to remember that the cabinets above your countertop are only 12" deep, not the 24" that most appliances are designed to occupy. Microwave ovens are no longer relegated to the countertop or over the range. Today, microwave oven drawers open and close at the push of a button and are perfect for undercounter installation. In addition, the big kitchen refrigerator is being replaced or at least supplemented with refrigerator and freezer drawers.Sub Zero has recently introduced a host of new undercounter refrigeration appliances that are also designed for living spaces other than the kitchen. The phrase that is being used is "point-of-use" appliances. For example, it might be a good idea to have a refrigerator in a recreation area stocked with snacks and drinks for the kids. Entertainment areas are being equipped -

Many Major Appliances are Made in the U.S.
Where are cooking appliances made? Customers often want to know where an appliance is manufactured. A surprising number of major appliances sold in the U.S. are manufactured here also. Let's take a look at cooking products. Here are where the Big 3 appliance manufacturers in the U.S. (Whirlpool, Electrolux/Frigidaire, and GE) make their ranges, cooktops, and ovens. Whirlpool Corporation also includes Amana, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and Maytag brands. They have a large facility (one million sq. ft.) in Cleveland, Tenn. where freestanding and slide-in ranges are built, as well as cooktops and wall ovens. In addition, they also build some ranges in their Tulsa, Oklahoma facility. Headquartered in Benton Harbor, Michigan, Whirlpool is the largest appliance manufacturer in the world. Over 80% of the appliances that Whirlpool sells in the U.S. are manufactured here. Whirlpool claims to employ more U.S. workers than all their competitors combined. Electrolux/Frigidaire has their range factory in Springfield, Tennessee, and has build a new cooktop facility near Memphis. It's worth noting that the Swedish firm Electrolux is the 2nd largest appliance manufacturer in the world, and has a major U.S. presence. GE makes ranges and ovens in their Roper facility in Lafayette, GA. GE also has strong ties to Mabe, a Mexican appliance company that builds GE's gas ranges. In spite of GE's affiliation with Mabe (GE has a 48% stake), GE is a leader in "insourcing", and has been adding appliance manufacturing jobs in the U.S. for several years. In addition, GE is quite proud -

New Dacor Touch Control Gas Cooktop
Dacor Continues Hi-Tech Appliance Launches Get Best Dacor Availability and Prices at UAKC Last Year Dacor Introduced an internet enabled wall oven (see below). Now, they have launched a gas cooktop with electronic touch controls. Touch controls are commonplace on electric cooktops, ranges, and ovens. However, Dacor's new Discovery® 36" Gas TouchTop™ is an industry first. There are several benefits to touch controls. In addition to the attractive smoother look of touch controls, cleanability is greatly improved. Of course, electronics offer added features not available with knobs such as safety locks to prevent accidental use - a handy feature if there are children around. Another major enhancement with Dacor's controls is the PreciseCook™ timers' ability to pre-program stop times on each burner. Not only does this timer help save energy it also prevents overcooked meals. Other features on the Dacor Discovery® 36" Gas TouchTop™ include Dacor’s exclusive Perma-Flame™ technology which automatically re-ignites any burner which unexpectedly goes out, and SmartFlame™ technology that reduces contact between the flame and grates which helps improve longevity. This is the latest in Dacor's long history of innovation, and follows last year's introduction of the Dacor Discovery iQTM Wall Oven. With another industry first, Dacor’s Discovery iQTM Wall Oven blends technology and performance to deliver a unique cooking experience. The integrated and intuitive Android™ interface provides home chefs with access to the proprietary Dacor iQ Cooking App. Now even novice chefs can perform at expert levels with a simple swipe of a finger. Past and Present Appliance Innovations
Two Old Appliance InnovationsAnd Their New VariationsSome of you might have been around when the microwave oven was thought to be a fad. And many of us remember when convection cooking was only available on expensive luxury ovens. We briefly look at these categories below and how they are evolving today. See them all at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC).1. Microwave ovens.Although the first microwave ovens date back to the 1950's, it wasn't until the late '70s that they became commonplace. Today, microwave ovens are considered a standard appliance in homes across America. While we could still debate some of the pros and cons of microwave cooking, the vote is in and microwave ovens will continue to be offered by the full line major appliance brands for the forseeable future.Microwave oven drawers.A valuable design alternative to the microwave hood (which some consider ergonomically unsound), the microwave drawer adds additional opportunities for the placement of a microwave. Under the counter, the microwave drawer is easily accessible and already has become commonplace in universal design schemes. There are a large selection of brands with microwave drawer options. Sharp is a leader in the category, but Dacor, Jenn-Air, Thermador, and Viking are just a few of the other brands avaialble.2. Convection ovens. This is a product that has been around for a long time and has gradually become a popular cooking method. Cooking with convection has been proven to save time and cook more evenly. Convection is -
