When you're making the selections for you new kitchen, you get to choose from dozens of paint colors, a host of cabinet finishes and various flooring and countertop choices. But, when it comes to getting the appliances you want, you're mostly stuck with buying appliances the way they're made. Viking is out to change that with its new D3 line of kitchen appliances.

D3 allows customers to customize the knobs and handles on their appliances to complement their kitchen decor. Look at your existing kitchen. Wherever you see an appliance knob or handle imagine how it would look if there were an insert in the knob or handle that color-matched your primary kitchen color or matched the finish of your cabinet. If the idea of having your appliances tie in to your kitchen in this way appeals to you, then the Viking D3 collection might be just what you need.

The D3 appliances are shipped with stainless steel knobs and handles with polished chrome inserts. However, the inserts in the knobs and handles are replaceable with inserts that may be painted or wood finishes that may be stained to coordinate with the kitchen decor. The wood inserts are offered in several stains or unfinished to match an adjacent cabinetry finish. Clear inserts can be spray-painted on the backside, and the resulting paint finish looks factory-applied through the acrylic.

The D3 product line consists of 30-in. convection ranges, cooktops and built-in convection ovens, microwaves, warming drawers, ventilation, dishwashers and a French door refrigerator/freezer. Ranges are available in gas self-clean, dual fuel, and electric models. Gas and dual fuel ranges have five high-performance sealed gas burners that provide up to 18,000 btus of powerful, precise, cooking power for which Viking is known. The electric range provides 5 QuickCook(TM) electric elements that reach full power in three seconds. The electric and dual fuel self-clean convection ovens have the largest oven capacity available.

It's important to note that these are full-featured Viking luxury appliances. So you get all the power and performance you'd expect from Viking, and the style options to make your new kitchen uniquely yours. Not only are the inserts infinitely customizable but the appliance line itself is available in Stainless Steel as well as in 24 designer colors from lemonade and mint julep to wasabi. So that you can visualize the entire palette and make the selections that work best for you, Viking has created a new D3 customization feature on its website.

Brent Bailey, Director of Design at Viking said, “The robust, yet modern styling of D3 gives a slight nod to our Professional heritage while providing an entirely new design interpretation of the Viking brand. Viking has always been at the forefront of kitchen appliance design and performance. D3 provides design choices that no other manufacturer offers. We're certain that customers will be excited about the creative aspect of the line.”

The D3 line of Viking appliances is built to standard appliance dimensions making them ideal for replacement of existing appliances as well as in new construction. Viking D3 retail pricing gives consumers the luxury features and quality they expect from the Viking brand at the greatest consumer value in the luxury segment.

There’s an old kitchen design principle called the work triangle. Refrigerator, range, and dishwasher make up a triangle and need to be located within a certain proximity of each other. But rules are made to be broken and there is a new trend in kitchen design that has appliances being located in new and sometimes unusual locations.

For example, Sub Zero and other manufacturers now offer undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers, beverage centers, ice makers, and wine cellars. Families can now use a small refrigerator in a refreshment area so the kids to get cold snacks when they come home from school. Freezers drawers in the pantry area can be used for long term food storage. The entertainment area can feature an ice-maker along with the wine cellar, and dish drawers next to the sink in the wet bar.

Microwave drawers, warming drawers, built-in coffee makers, and duct-free downdraft cooktops also open up new location opportunities. The key is that design should be about how you want to live, and not follow outdated rules.

What? An outdoor dishwasher? You bet! Think about how practical this is to clean up after all your outdoor cooking. No dragging those dirty, dripping barbecue utensils back into the house. Cleanup is a snap because an outdoor rated dishwasher is now available.

Outdoor rated means it is approved for outdoor use. It’s just like an indoor dishwasher, with all the cleaning cycles and capacity, but sturdier, and protected from the outdoor environment. The wiring and electronics are reinforced to withstand harsh conditions of both cold and warm climates.

Operationally, it works the same, and needs hookup to a water supply hose, a drain hose, and of course an electric cord. Your outdoor kitchen may have a grill, a refrigerator, even a pizza oven and microwave, but it’s not complete without this new outdoor dishwasher from Asko.

For pricing and more information contact Universal Kitchen and Bath Center at 12050 Ventura Blvd. Suite B-105, Studio City CA 91604, PH 877 696-2982.
