Columbus Day Sale at Universal Appliance
Savings this week at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center 520 years ago Columbus landed on the shores of America. Today we celebrate Columbus Day as a Federal holiday on the second Monday of each October. The earliest recorded remembrance of Columbus' "discovery" of the New World was in 1792 on the 300th anniversary of his journey. However, the first celebration of Columbus Day was organized in 1866 by Italian residents of New York City. It wasn't until 1937 that President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared all October 12th's as Columbus Day, but in 1971 it was declared by Congress that the second Monday in October be recognized as a national holiday. So Monday October 8th, 2012 is Columbus Day, and it is only fitting that Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center UAKC would have some special offers to help celebrate the Holiday. Join the celebration and save now on these great deals. This price on a deluxe Stainless Steel KitchenAid dishwasher can't be beat. It's a $350 savings off the regular price! And the Giant 28 cu. ft. Electrolux French Door Refrigerator has a price so low, we can't advertise it here. Now that there are two great locations to visit, you'll find it twice as easy to save money at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center. Here are a few more examples of some of the savings during their Columbus Day Sale. While lots of guys might be particularly fond of this great deal, nearly half off, on a Viking Gas Grill, -

French Door Refrigerators
What is a French Door Refrigerator? There are four basic refrigerator/freezer categories. They are: Top-mount. This unit has the freezer on the top and a refrigerator below the freezer compartment. Doors are hinged to side swing from either the right or left.Bottom-mount. Bottom-mounts or bottom freezer configurations have the refrigerator on the top and a freezer below. The refrigerator door is hinged like the top mount, but the freezer may be either a side swing or a slide-out drawer.Side-by-Side. Side-by-Side refrigerators are a very popular configuration that have the freezer compartment on the left and the refrigerator compartment on the right. The doors are hinged on either side.French Door. These are bottom freezer refrigerators with a split-door in the refrigerator compartment that allows the refrigerator to be opened from the center. They have become increasingly popular in recent years.History of French Door refrigerators Some industry veterans may recall the short-lived appearance of a French Door model refrigerator from Whirlpool back in the '80s. It did not take with consumers, and was soon dropped. The Amana brand is well-known for its refrigeration and has been a leader in bottom freezer refrigerators for many years. In the late '90s Amana launched the first successful French Door refrigerators. Amana was acquired by Maytag in 2000, and shortly thereafter Maytag's premier Jenn-Air brand introduced a counter-depth French Door model which was a big hit. Soon all the major U.S. manufacturers had French Door refrigerator models. Not surprisingly, the Korean brands were quick to chime in with -

Choosing a Built-In Refrigerator
Choosing a built-in refrigerator can be a daunting task. Not only is it a major investment, but there are many considerations and options. Simply categorizing and listing the choices may be of some help so let's break it down. First, what is a built-in refrigerator? It's a category of refrigerator designed to fit in an enclosure as a permanent part of the kitchen flush or nearly flush with surrounding kitchen cabinetry. We should distinguish between built-in refrigerators and counter-depth refrigerators. Built-in refrigerators are designed to be...well...built-in and attached to adjacent cabinets. Counter-depth refrigerators are versions of free-standing refrigerators, but with shallow depths. Their shallow depths allow them to roll in to a standard refrigerator cut out and fit nicely, only sticking out a few inches from a standard 24" depth cabinet, but of course, they are not built-ins.In the past, built-in units have typically been 84" tall with compressors mounted on the top. Some European brands of built-ins now have compressors in the bottom, but are still taller than free-standing or counter depth refrigerators and are fully-flush with surrounding cabinets. Built-in refrigerators are available in widths ranging from 27" wide to 48" wide. Many built-ins have depths that are 24 - 25" so that they can be installed to fit flush with surrounding cabinetry.Built-in refrigerators are available in side-by-side, bottom-freezer, french door, all refrigerator, and all freezer configurations.Side-by-side built-in refrigerators are the most common configuration of built-in refrigerators. With a 48" wide side-by-side, the combined refrigerator/freezer capacity is nearly 30 -

American Brand Appliances vs What is made in the U.S.
Having just finished the 4th of July holiday season with all the attending appliance sale events, it should be noted that at least one of the big box stores - the guys who wear orange aprons - had a newspaper tab with a patriotic theme, Red, White, and Blue sale featuring a Korean appliance brand. It might be interesting and worthwhile to look at the landscape of appliance brands and manufacturing to identify the brands by nationality and by where they are manufactured. In other words, which brands are "American" brands and what is manufactured in the U.S. By the way, we mean "made" or "manufactured" to also include assembly. Most manufacturing facilities today are primarily assembly factories where parts are attached to a chassis.American brands of major appliances include Whirlpool and GE as full-line manufacturers. Whirlpool is the largest appliance manufacturer in the world though over half their sales are in the U.S. Their headquarters are in the U.S. and they are listed on the U.S. stock exchange. Whirlpool also makes and sells U.S. appliances under these brand names: Amana, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and Maytag. They claim that over 80% of the appliances they sell in the U.S. are made in the U.S. Though listed on the U.S. stock exchange, GE is a true multi-national, doing business all over the world making and selling everything from jet engines, to nuclear power plants, to major appliances. They are much less of a factor in world wide appliance sales than in the -

Three ways to save on appliances
Here's an explanation of three ways to save on appliances: FREE AppliancesMail-In RebatesInstant Rebates Free Appliance offers usually include a free appliance with the purchase of a specific kitchen appliance or kitchen appliances. For example, purchase a range or a cooktop + wall oven and get a free dishwasher. Sometimes manufacturers parlay the free offer so that if you purchase the necessary appliances to get the free dishwasher you can then purchase a built-in refrigerator and get a free vent hood or add-on appliance such as an icemaker, wine chiller, etc. for free.Mail-In Rebates are offers by appliance manufacturers to refund or "rebate" to consumers a specifc amount when they purchase qualifying appliances such as the KitchenAid appliance rebate below. The consumer must complete a rebate form or certificate, and send it in to the manufacturer along with proof of purchase. It can take up to 8 weeks to get the rebate.Instant Rebates are similar to the Mail-In Rebates above except that the dealer gives the customer the rebate at the time of purchase and gets re-imbursed by the manufacturer. Customers can save up to $2500 on Sub-Zero and Wolf kitchen appliances below. No matter what type of savings are being offered you can save the most by having an appliance expert at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center help you select the appliances that best suit your needs at the lowest total cost. Choosing Appliance Brands
It is certainly important to get the features you want at the price you are willing to pay when selecting appliances for your new kitchen or laundry room. However, it is equally important to choose the right brand. Appliance manufacturers invest heavily in building brands that fit various buyer lifestyles and profiles. The appliance brand you choose could even affect the resale value of your home. Whirlpool Corporation, the world's largest appliance manufacturer, has a stable of U.S. brands designed to fill various market segments. Amana is their value brand, designed to give entry level buyers a solid brand at a competitive price. Whirlpool brand is the mass brand and offers a large selection of products across a very broad section of the appliance market, and is a particularly strong laundry brand. The Maytag brand is famous for durability. Maytag products are sturdy looking, built to last, and often manufactured with commercial grade parts. KitchenAid brand is a famous kitchen brand and includes not only a full selection of upscale major appliances, but also the famous KitchenAid mixer and other small appliances. Jenn-Air brand is Whirlpool Corporation's luxury brand, designed for customers who want the best in luxury kitchen appliances. Some other full-line major appliance manufacturers have similar brand tiers such as GE, GE Profile, and GE Monogram, or Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau. The good news is that Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center carries all the major brands. They can satisfy all your appliance needs and help you select just -

Valuable advice - Get a new disposer when replacing a dishwasher
This is going to save you some money. If you're replacing an old dishwasher, consider replacing the disposer at the same time. It makes sense, since they likely were both installed at the same originally. If you wind up replacing a disposer a few months after you've replaced the dishwasher, you'll kick yourself for not taking this advice. You'll only pay one trip charge if you replace the disposer and dishwasher at the same time, and the installation will be straightforward because the installer is already working under the sink, and making a connection to the disposer when installing the dishwasher. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center carries all the best brands of disposers. Keeping food warm
Warming Drawers have become increasingly popular due to the great convenience of having a device whose primary purpose is to keep cooked food warm until it is ready to be served. Whether cooks need to keep some food warm while other food is being prepared, or whether dinner needs to be kept warm until the entire family is present and accounted for, these devices are a sensible and practical solution to having meals ready to be served when diners are ready to eat. These temperature controlled drawers are designed to install easily in standard cabinetry under a counter or in a full depth wall cabinet along with a wall oven. Another location for warming drawers is in a butlers pantry. Some companies even make warming drawers that are rated for outdoor use, eg. Viking Outdoor. Most full-line appliance manufacturers offer warming drawers that match their ovens and other appliances to complement their appearance in kitchen suites. Warming drawers may have additional features such as automatic shutoff, moisture control, and even slow-cooking (crockpot) capabilities (see KitchenAid). Temperatures range from a low of under 90 degrees for proofing or plate warming, and all the way up to 250 degrees. Are warming drawers a needless frill or luxury? Not necessarily. In addition to the convenience, warming drawers can save time and energy. Customers might also choose a single oven and warming drawer to save money over the cost of a double oven recognizing that the second oven is oven used only to keep
