New Bosch Compact Major Appliances
Bosch launches new line of appliances for small spaces We've written before about the challenges of a tiny kitchen (see below), but whether you live in a cottage, a small condo, or a compact add-on unit, you've got choices in supplying your living space with appliances. Click on the link below: Smaller Appliances for Smaller Kitchens Bosch is launching a new line of compact kitchen and laundry appliances designed for space deprived living units. Their offering includes: Laundry Appliances:Compact Front-Load WasherCompact Condenser Dryer (no venting required) Kitchen Apppliances:24" Electric Cooktop24" Gas Cooktop24" Electric Oven18" Dishwasher24" Refrigerator/Freezer These Bosch appliances may be small in size, but they come fully-equipped with the same popular features you'd expect to find on Bosch's German engineered full-sized appliances. In fact, you might say that the European heritage of Bosch gives them a distinct advantage in the small-sized appliance category, since standard sized European appliances are 60 (mm) = approximately 24" wide. In the laundry category, Bosch's washer and dryer can be installed as a stacked pair freeing up additional space. Dryers often present a challenge because they need to be vented out. However, the Bosch compact dryer has a condensation dry system that is designed for ventless operation. Scheduled for July 2015 availability, Bosch will be offering 3 different models to choose from. In kitchen appliances, the Bosch dishwasher is a fully featured dishwasher, but comes in at only 18" wide, 6" slimmer than standard dishwashers. The 24" wall oven will fit underneath the cooktop, -

Save Water When Washing
Tips to help reduce your water usage when washing clothes.Since over 20% of the average family's water use comes from doing laundry, reducing water usage in the laundry room can have a big impact on your total household water consumption. Here are a couple of tips to save water and save money in the laundry room.Wash full loads.Whenever possible washing a full load is far more efficient and saves water over partial loads. It will also save electricity or gas when drying clothes.Wash less frequently.Nobody's suggesting that we should wear dirty clothes, but really how often do we need to wash those denims when we only wear them for light day to day use? Remember Grandma talking about Monday laundry day, and that was the only day laundry got done? The next time we're loading the washer, let's take a good look at the clothes. If a high percentage of the laundry looks like it might be just fine to use another day or two, then seriously think about saving the time, the work, the energy, and water usage by laundering less frequently.Use Energy-Saving WashersSuprisingly, there is not much else we can do to save water in clothes washing except to use a high-efficiency front-load or top-load washer. Basically, that means if we're really concerned about saving water we should not be using a traditional top-load washer with an agitator post in the middle. Agitator type top-load machines will use up to 3X the amount of water that a high-efficiency -

Energy Star Appliance News
New FIRST Energy Star DryersGet these new dryers at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterEnergy Star® appliances have been around for decades. Why are we just now getting electric dryers with Energy Star® ratings? The reasoning for not having Energy Star® rated dryers has always been that dryers were all about the same when it came to energy usage. Evidently, that has changed. The advanced moisture sensors that are available these days can give dryers equipped with this technology an edge over those using traditional thermostats to cycle on and off.Whirlpool has jumped on this development, and now has the first ENERGY STAR® dryers on the market. Below is what Whirlpool has to say about their new dryers, and a list of the qualified models:SAVE WITH THE Industry’s first ENERGY STAR® certified dryers. As the first appliance manufacturer to offer electric dryers with ENERGY STAR® certification, Whirlpool Corporation's energy efficient dryers now offer more opportunity to save on energy bills. These models exceed government efficiency standards by over 20%. When coupled with an energy efficient washer, users can benefit from even greater savings.WED72HEDWED81HEDWED8500DWED87HEDWED95HEDWED97HEDHere is a list of key features on the WED87HED Whirlpool Duet Dryer with Steam:Advanced Moisture Sensing SystemThree built-in sensors read incoming air temperature and outgoing air temperature while monitoring moisture levels inside the dryer. Compact Undercounter Laundry Equipment
Undercounter washers and dryers Choose from top brands at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center As part of our series on undercounter appliances, today we're covering washers and dryers designed for installation in a base cabinet. Here in the U.S., we have separate laundry rooms, designed to accommodate full-sized top loading or front loading washers and dryers. They overwhelmingly are one of the big U.S. brands such as GE, Maytag, or Whirlpool or from one of the Korean brands, LG or Samsung. However, some of the top brands in undercounter laundry equipment are European names. Asko, Bosch, and Miele don't even compete in the large capacity U.S. laundry market, but they are big names in 24" wide washers and dryers that fit underneath a counter (though GE, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire also have models at the low end of this market). Since most washers sold in Europe are designed to fit in a 60 cm (24") base cabinet in the kitchen, this appliance category falls into the wheelhouse of the European brands. They do a great job of washing in less time than their U.S. counterparts and are very energy efficient. Their compact size not only means that they can be located in tight spaces, they are accessible and perfect to use for universal design. Bosch Fit speed and style just about anywhere. With their sleek design, our matching Bosch 24" laundry units offer best in class installation. Stack them in a closet or install -

Buying a Clothes Dryer
When to buy a clothes dryer1. When Purchasing a Washing Machine: There is no question that more dryers are purchased in connection with washer purchases than at any other time. It makes sense to have a matching dryer to go with your washer. So, it's not a surprise that around sixty percent of laundry buyers choose a matching laundry pair. A matching dryer will have the right capacity to handle a full load of clothes from the washer. Having this kind of throughput is important. When you're washing multiple loads of clothes it's nice to have the dryer available for use when the clothes are done washing. And, it sure perks up the laundry room to have a matching washer/dryer pair. 2. When you can save money:Washer/Dryer pairs are often promoted as sets. If you can get a great deal on the pair, take advantage of the savings. Ask the experts at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center for any manufacturer specials on laundry pairs. 3. When the old dryer breaks down: Assuming "old" means 12-15 years old or more, if your dryer breaks down, there's a good chance the repair bill will exceed the value of your dryer. Time for a visit to Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center. 4. When switching from gas to electric or vice versa: If you move into a house with only a 240v receptacle for an electric dryer and you bring a -

Laundry Centers at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center
Washers and Dryers for Small SpacesLaundry Centers are an All-in-One SolutionWhen space is at a premium you may not have room for a full-size, side by side washer and dryer pair. A laundry center may be just what you need. Laundry centers feature a washer on the bottom and a dryer above. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) carries major brand laundry centers from GE, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, Speed Queen, and Maytag.Just like side-by-side laundry units, these laundry centers are available with either gas or electric (240v) dryers, and need to be vented outside. Compact models are 24" wide, while 27" wide laundry centers will give you full-versions of both washer and dryer in a stacked configuration. The 27" models not only have larger capacity, but will also have most of the same features and cycles that you'd find on their separate counterparts. Carefully check all dimensions (height, width, and depth) to make sure that the laundry center will fit in the space you have available. You'll need hot and cold water connections, as well as 240v. electricity or gas line for the dryer, and a dryer vent.If you don't have either 240v. electricity or gas available for the dryer there are special models designed to work on 120v. but they will take longer to dry. There are also dryer models that are designed to work without an external vent, but there are tradeoffs to be made with these dryers as well. Finally, you may -

Discover Whirlpool Corporation Appliances at UAKC
Whirlpool is the world's largest appliance manufacturerUS Whirlpool brands available at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center At around $20 billion in annual sales Whirlpool stakes its claim as the World's largest appliance manufacturer. Headquartered in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the 102 year old company sells appliances in the U.S. under the following brand names: Amana, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air and of course Whirlpool brand. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) is your best choice for any of these Whirlpool brands.Whirlpool is also believed to manufacture more appliances in the U.S. than any other brand, and they also claim that a higher percentage of their U.S. sales of appliances are manufactured in the U.S. than any of Whirlpool's top competitors. Whirlpool has actually moved some production back to the U.S. from Mexico and elsewhere, and they have stated a desire to produce products in the country where they sell them wherever feasible. In all likelihood, the Whirlpool manufacturing facility in Clyde, Ohio is the largest laundry (washer & dryer) manufacturing facility in the World.Founded by the Upton brothers in 1911, Whirlpool grew to be a major manufacturer in the post WWII war years. In the 70's and 80's, they purchased KitchenAid and then acquired N.V. Philips' European appliance business which helped make Whirlpool a major factor in appliances globally. With the purchase of Maytag, and its Jenn-Air and Amana brands in 2005, Whirlpool became the largest appliance manufacture in the world.Universal
