Mass Premium Appliances
Affordable Upgraded Appliances at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterMass Premium Appliance BrandsUniversal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) is Headquarters in Southern California for the "mass" appliance brands like GE, Frigidaire, Maytag, and Whirlpool. And most of you know that with locations in Studio City and Calabasas they also focus on the "luxury" brands including Wolf Sub Zero, Viking, Thermador, Miele and Gaggenau. There is also a growing market for brands known as "mass premium" appliance brands. The mass premium moniker fits those brands that are NOT in the upper stratosphere price-wise with names like Sub Zero and Miele, but nevertheless are in a higher price category than GE, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire's more entry level offerings. The mass premium category includes KitchenAid, Bosch, GE Café/Profile, and Electrolux. We might even consider Korean brands LG and Samsung as in the mass premium category as well as the Italian labels recently launched in the U.S. Fulgor Milano and Bertazzoni. All these brands are strategically positioned with pricing and feature levels definitely above the mass, but nevertheless not luxury. (It gets fuzzy. Electrolux brand certainly has some products that might be considered above mass premium, and Jenn-Air purposely describes itself as "super premium", evidently meaning more than mass premium, but not quite luxury). In any case let's take a look at two brands who seem to be comfortable calling themselves mass premium - KitchenAid and Bosch.Part of the Whirlpool family of brands, KitchenAid is focused on the kitchen (does not have washers and dryers). Here's how -

Steam Convection Ovens, French Door Ovens, and Built-In Coffee Makers
Three Luxury Appliance Trends for 2014 Available at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center The three biggest trends in luxury appliances in 2014 are Combination Steam Convection Ovens, French Door Ovens, and Built-In Coffee Makers. While all three are definitely trends in 2014, they've all been around for a while in one way or another. Steam Convection OvensCommercial steam convection ovens have been around for decades, but the combination steam convection oven for home use is more recent. KitchenAid introduced a full sized convection oven with steam assist about 15 years ago, which is still around today. However, the strong trend toward steam convection ovens began only a few years ago when European brands such as Thermador, Gaggenau, and Miele brought their versions of steam convection "combi" ovens to the U.S. It was "game on," and today Jenn-Air, Wolf, Bosch, Viking, and others have joined the fray with their versions of steam convection ovens. Typically, these ovens are designed to fit a 24" cabinet space (European 60 cm), but pack a lot of features and capabilities in the smaller oven cavity. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Centercarries a full array of convection ovens from all these brands French Door OvensJust like steam convection ovens, French door wall ovens have been around in restaurants and in commercial applications for decades. About 2002, Jade (then a division of Maytag) introduced a French door wall oven for home use. Subsequently, Jade became -

Compact Undercounter Laundry Equipment
Undercounter washers and dryers Choose from top brands at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center As part of our series on undercounter appliances, today we're covering washers and dryers designed for installation in a base cabinet. Here in the U.S., we have separate laundry rooms, designed to accommodate full-sized top loading or front loading washers and dryers. They overwhelmingly are one of the big U.S. brands such as GE, Maytag, or Whirlpool or from one of the Korean brands, LG or Samsung. However, some of the top brands in undercounter laundry equipment are European names. Asko, Bosch, and Miele don't even compete in the large capacity U.S. laundry market, but they are big names in 24" wide washers and dryers that fit underneath a counter (though GE, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire also have models at the low end of this market). Since most washers sold in Europe are designed to fit in a 60 cm (24") base cabinet in the kitchen, this appliance category falls into the wheelhouse of the European brands. They do a great job of washing in less time than their U.S. counterparts and are very energy efficient. Their compact size not only means that they can be located in tight spaces, they are accessible and perfect to use for universal design. Bosch Fit speed and style just about anywhere. With their sleek design, our matching Bosch 24" laundry units offer best in class installation. Stack them in a closet or install -

Cleaning New Ranges and Ovens
Various Range and Oven cleaning typesCheck them out at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterIf you're purchasing a new range or oven, you'll want to know how it cleans. An entry level range is likely not to have any cleaning cycle, so the cleaning is going to be do it yourself, perhaps with caustic oven cleaner. When moving up to more fully-featured ranges and ovens you'll find pyrolytic self-cleaning ovens. When the oven gets dirty, you select the self-cleaning cycle, the oven locks and for 2-4 hours gets extremely hot, and incinerates any burnt on spills. At the high end of the market, some of the luxury brand commercial looking stainless gas ranges and ovens may not have any automatic cleaning cycles. In the last few years GE, Maytag, Whirlpool, and others have begun offering other steam cleaning options for light cleaning of oven interiors. The consumer adds a cup or so of water to the bottom of the oven and selects a steam cleaning cycle. After 25 minutes the soil in the bottom of the oven has been loosened and the oven can be sponged out. For heavier cleaning, pyrolytic self-cleaning is still an optionWhirlpool and Maytag also offer a low temperature self-cleaning technology called Aqualift on some models. It also uses water, but Aqualift models are considered "self-clean" and do not have a pyrolytic self-clean option. Here's how Aqualift is described -

Undercounter Appliances Gaining Popularity
Appliances that Fit Under Your Countertops Visit Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Not long ago the only appliances placed underneath a counter in most homes were the dishwasher and perhaps a trash compactor. Now, there are a host of appliances configured to fit underneath the counter. In fact, it's hard to think of a major appliance category that does not have products configured to work under a countertop. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center has a huge selection of appliances from many brands that will fit under your countertop. Among the reasons to install an appliance under a counter, would be not only to save counter space, but also for accessibility. It's also good to remember that the cabinets above your countertop are only 12" deep, not the 24" that most appliances are designed to occupy. Microwave ovens are no longer relegated to the countertop or over the range. Today, microwave oven drawers open and close at the push of a button and are perfect for undercounter installation. In addition, the big kitchen refrigerator is being replaced or at least supplemented with refrigerator and freezer drawers.Sub Zero has recently introduced a host of new undercounter refrigeration appliances that are also designed for living spaces other than the kitchen. The phrase that is being used is "point-of-use" appliances. For example, it might be a good idea to have a refrigerator in a recreation area stocked with snacks and drinks for the kids. Entertainment areas are being equipped -

Side by Side Refrigerators
Choosing a New Side by Side Refrigerator While French door refrigerators seem to be all the rage these days, side by side refrigerator still hold a significant share of refrigerator industry sales. Reasons for customers preferring side by side refrigerators include the better access to the freezer compartments (i.e. no digging to find the ice cream), less critical space used for ice storage, and overall better organization and visibility. Whatever your reason, if a side by side is your choice here are three fundamental choices you need to make. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center can help you choose the configuration that works best for you. Built-In A built-in side by side will fit flush inside your cabinet space, and could even be "integrated" with matching cabinet panels and hidden hinges. Depending on the brand, size, and features this refrigerator could cost $10,000 or more. Counter depth A counter depth side by side refrigerator is going to fit nearly flush with the countertops (25") not counting the door. While they're not built-in, they're attractive looking, and blend into the surrounding cabinets nicely. Full depth A full or standard depth refrigerator will protrude from the kitchen cabinets. This style refrigerator offers more capacity, but can often be 35" deep or more. Consumers often complain about having to navigate around the refrigerator. As you can see, there are tradeoffs among the 3 basic refrigerator configurations. In addition, you'll need to decide among models featuring dispensers and non-dispenser models. You may also have a -

Top Loading Agitator-Type Washing Machines
Traditional Washing Machines Still Popular Get the Best Selection of New Washers at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center When choosing a new washing machine consumers are faced with three basic types of washers. Front loading washing machines with horizontal wash cylinders, HE (High Efficiency) top loading washers, and traditional agitator type top loading washing machines. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) carries all three washer configurations.Traditional agitator type top loading washers, like Mom (or Grandma) use to have, are the most economical to purchase and the most expensive to operate. They use much more water than either HE top loaders or front load washers. The tub fills with water for the wash cycle immersing the clothes. The agitator chugs back and forth like a food mixer stirring the clothes in the soapy water. The wash cycle is followed by a rinse cycle to remove the soap, which is followed by spinning the final rinse water out of the machine. Many homemakers swear by their old agitator-type machines, and the major brands, GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Maytag, etc. still make and sell a lot of them. Another brand worth looking at in the top load configuration is Speed Queen. A leader in the commercial laundry field, Speed Queen is a durable product with a heavy duty motor and transmission and a stainless steel tub. While traditional top load washers use more water, they cost less than equivalent front load and HE
