So I've started looking up small businesses on Facebook and Twitter because I know a lot of them are starting to offer discounts to their social media fans, and since I just moved into a new place and need a bunch of new kitchen stuff, I thought I'd try to find some appliance places on these sites. Most of the places I searched for didn't have social media accounts, but I was pleased to find that UAKC does and they do indeed offer specials for their fans.

Like UAKC on Facebook and visit Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center to get the best prices on your appliance and plumbing fixture needs.

After shopping around, John A. found Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center.

John A.

Santa Monica, CA

I can honestly say that my overall experience with Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center was very pleasant. Prior to purchasing a washer and dryer for my laundry room I visited several different stores. My last stop was Universal. First of all their store looks great and has a great variety of brands in a very wide price range. The atmosphere at their showroom is friendly and has a kind of homey feel to it. The sales person knew the products very well and helped me make the best choice possible for the most durable washer and dryer. I live in Santa Monica by the ocean and unfortunately everything getting rusted within a few years. I didn't get my products right away, they had to be ordered from the manufacturer, but I received everything and had it installed few days later, which I think is very fair and standard. I enjoyed my shopping experience with Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center and I am recommending them to everyone.

I and my partner are re-doing our kitchen and we just bought all new appliances from Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center – double wall ovens, refrigerator, cooktop, hood, washer, dryer and wine cooler . I was pleasantly surprised by the extremely competitive prices that I paid. The sales staff (we were helped by Edward) was patient, explained the pros and cons, and helped us make choices that will provide good value, and that we will be happy with for a long time. I highly recommend Universal for kitchen appliances and fixtures. Diane from plumbing was also extremely patient and helped us select a sink and faucets. At first I was certain that I could get better deals online but after I checked prices I realized that I was getting a very good deal at Universal. The sales staff were willing to spend a lot of time with us without pressuring us to make any choices. All in all, it has been a great experience for us and we will certainly go back to them.

Emphasis Added

Phiroze worked with Edward in appliances and Diane in plumbing and outfitted an entire kitchen at UAKC.

How to Choose: Advice in selecting new kitchen appliances.

Time to make a choice of appliances? Here's some advice from decision experts that you might be able to apply to your upcoming decison.

Decision Steps

Define the problem. Perhaps you're remodeling your kitchen and replacing the tired old appliances. So you need to purchase new. Maybe, you've got a 12 year old washing machine that's failing and you don't want to pay another repair bill. Your decison may be a compound decision. “Should I purchase just a new washer, or should I go ahead and purchase a washer/dryer pair.”

Specify the decision criteria, i.e. objectives. Are these straightforward replacements, eg. refrigerator, range, dishwasher, or will you be adding new product categories, such as cooktop, wall oven, built-in coffee maker, microwave drawer, etc. There's a lot go consider. Think hard about what you want the best outcome to look like. Your decision criteria should answer the question, “Will this get me where I want to be?”

Gather Alternatives. This is the creative phase where you'll look broadly at all possibilities, even unconventional ideas. For example, maybe you want to consider point of use refrigerators rather than one massive unit. It's important to look at a wide range of alternatives because you're likely to find good alternatives that you hadn't previously considered. At some point you'll need to switch gears from expanding possibilites, and to begin to narrow the field. Knowing just when to stop looking may not be self-evident. Set a timeline. For example: “By next Friday I will quit looking at appliances, and begin comparing from the existing list.” Ask your designer or advisor to let you know when they think you need to move on.

Evaluate the choices. After removing the alternatives that just don't meet the decision criteria and arriving at a manageable list, you need to begin a more structured evalaution process. Here's where you apply the specific decision criteria against each alternative. It's a process of making tradeoffs and rating or scoring each alternative on each criteria.

Select the best alternative, and make the decision. You've made the tradeoffs and done the scoring, tested the logic, considered roadblocks, and confirmed your best choice. The decision may have been difficult, but has now been reached.

Implement the decision. Nothing could be more frustrating than going through this entire process, only to stumble on the implementation. It's time to move forward with your action plan. This means notifying others of your decision, placing orders, making deposits, etc. Sometimes, people are hesitant to execute on a good plan. Then prices change, items are sold out. Once a decision is made, don't hesitate.

Evaluate the result. Afterwords, it's always a good idea to look back. What went well? What didn't? What can we learn to apply to the next decision? Even the best decisions will have unexpected turns and twists.

During this process, it helps to have a good appliance advisor. Keep him or her in the loop as you move through the steps. If you expect good advice, It's important to let your appliance advisor know the details of the process, especially with respect to your timeline and budget.

Consult the experts at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center soon and best wishes with your new appliances:

Are you ever annoyed by all the questions salespeople seem to ask? Have you ever wondered why they seem to be giving you a quiz, instead of helping you make your purchase?

Here's why this happens: Appliance sales folks work in an environment where there are many brands, many categories within the brands, and many products within the categories. Vastly different products perform different functions across a wide range of prices. When you bounce in and say you want a washer, the sale person has to ask a number of questions to help you find the product that most precisely fits your needs.

It's impolite and impertinent to just jump in and ask a customer how much she can afford or how big her family is, so a series of questions related to the size of the washer that might fit your needs and showing a couple of examples in different price ranges might help narrow the field. Of course, the sales person might also want to know whether your interests are in a front-load or a top-load washing machine.

One issue is that “you don't know what you don't know”. As a buyer, if you don't know the advantages and disadvantages of a front-load washer vs. a top-load then it's the sales associates job to help explain this in order for you to make a determination of which product will work best for you. The more you learn, the better informed you are, and the more likely you are to make the proper decision, yes? Well…yes, this is true up to a point.

Decison-making is about broadening the scope of the decison so you have a good spectrum of choices- an inductive process. A sales person should make sure that you have an idea of the range of possibilities that exist. BUT, there is also a time to switch from the inductive process to the deductive process. There is a “cost of additional knowledge” that becomes too great, and the decision-maker (buyer) needs to limit the alternatives and start narrowing the field. You and your sales associate should know when this transpires. You might even ask each other, “Have we looked at enough options here to begin zeroing in on the best fit?”

Maybe the most frustrating part of the sales process for both buyer and seller is to keep switching back and forth from the inductive, “let's look at what's out there” process to the deductive, “let's start making the best choice”. As a customer, you should be comfortable with the process and timeline, but you should also recognize when you are spinning your wheels. Don't waste your time and the sales person's time by moving from the inductive process of examining the alternatives to the deductive process of narrowing the choices and back again. By the way, sales people are at least as likely to switch back and forth this way as customers are, so you need to keep each other on track without being overbearing.

So, here's a good general rule for both customer and sales person. Set a couple of easy ground rules when you start working with each other. Customers need to briefly explain their situation, let the salesperson know where they are in the purchase process, and what their needs are. Salepeople need to explain their role and make sure that the customer is comfortable with their questions, direction, and guidance through the sales process.

The sales people at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center are extremely knowledgable, yet they're also very efficient. They can give you all the information you need on products and prices to help make the very best decision that suits your specific needs without wasting your time. Call or visit today.

Kitchen Remodeling is a major undertaking. Before committing to spending thousands of dollars for your new kitchen, here are some important guidelines to follow:

1. Research for a good contractor. Don’t merely rely on ads or Yellow Pages. Get recommendations from friends and neighbors. Check Angie’s List and the BBB.
2. Use only licensed and bonded contractors. Ask them for references, and check the references. If you can, visit previous jobs.
3. Get at least three estimates. Don’t automatically take the low bid. You can learn a lot from an estimate. Is it well prepared and professional? Is the scope of work clearly defined with completion dates, and cost breakdowns? Don’t simply accept the bid as final. It’s OK to negotiate. Clarify anything you don’t understand.
4. Do not pay for everything in advance. Customs vary, but the payment schedule should leave a substantial amount due upon satisfactory completion.

Follow these four recommendations and make sure that you get your appliances from a reliable source:
