Buying Appliances on Memorial Day
Why Buy Appliances on Memorial DayBest Overall Memorial Deals at UAKCI've been around the appliance industry for nearly 40 years. During that time I've had a variety of jobs in sales and marketing with distributors and manufacturers. Along the way, I've taught marketing classes to both undergraduate and MBA students. One area that marketers study is consumer demand. We know, for example, that each year there is a finite number of appliances sold. Annual appliance sales are determined by factors such as new home sales, household creations, appliance replacement cycles (lifespans), new appliance innovations eg. microwave ovens, and household incomes. However, holiday appliance sales, do not fit this rational model. Buying an appliance because you have a 3 day weekend is not rational. Or so, I thought. Study after study, shows that appliance sales dramatically spike during holidays. In fact, one of the biggest appliance sales weekends of the year is coming up. Memorial Day. It's not because people get married, have kids, or get raises on holiday weekends that appliance sales spike. It's certainly not because appliances tend to break down on holidays. It's because manufacturers and big retailers promote heavily with big discounts centered around holidays. Consumers like to save money. Voilà! Lot's of appliances get sold during the Memorial Day holiday period. Here are examples of two great deals available at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center during the 2017 Memorial Day Sale. click on photos below for details You may have heard the story of the youngster who asked the old -

Today's Favorite Recipe
Shrimp Scampi RecipeGreat Recipe from Wolf shared by UAKCShrimp Scampi This garlicky, lemony shrimp dish is a classic best served with plenty of crusty bread to sop up the sauce. The cooking process moves as quickly as a stir-fry, so you’ll want to have all your ingredients prepared in advance and ready to go.Preparation MethodHeat the oil in a large skillet or sauté pan over medium heat until it shimmers, 1 to 2 minutes, then add the shrimp. Cook, stirring often, until the shrimp start to curl and turn pink, 1 to ½ minutes.Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds, then add the tomatoes and cook for 30 seconds more. Turn off the heat and stir in the lemon juice and vermouth. Add the butter, stirring it into the sauce until it melts. Stir in 1 tablespoon of the parsley and season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon of parsley over the top and serve.SERVES 4INGREDIENTS2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil1 pound (21 to 25 count) shrimp, peeled and deveined3 garlic cloves, minced2 large plum tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and diced2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice2 tablespoons vermouth or dry white wine2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsleyKosher saltFreshly ground black pepperRecipe courtesy of WolfFor all your major appliance and decorative plumbing needs call or visit the professionals at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center today. -

Buying Appliance Packages
Save with a One Brand PackageUAKC is the Best Choice for Appliance SolutionsHere's an idea for saving money on your next appliance purchase. When you're purchasing more than two appliances at once, you should seriously consider the package savings that you can now get from several of the top brands.Let's use Thermador for an example. For several years Thermador has been offering a 1-2-Free appliance promotion. For example, buy a qualifying Thermador cooktop and oven and get a dishwasher FREE, or buy a qualifying Thermador range and get a dishwasher free, but you get the idea. It's not tricky either. Not like those promotions that are designed to hook you, so there's no way to really get the free product. There are numerous variations available.Thermador is not the only brand that offers this type of deal. Fisher and Paykel as well as their sister company DCS have similar offers with a double drawer dishwasher as the free appliance. GE's offer is buy 3 qualifying appliances and get a free dishwasher valued up to $1000. Buy qualifying products from Jenn-Air and you can earn over $3,000 in credits to complete your kitchen purchase, plus up to $1000 towards your appliance package installation.Well, there is one tiny, tiny catch to all these FREE appliances, credits, and installation appliances. They only work when you buy a single brand of appliances. So, if for example, you want a Sub Zero refrigerator, a Viking Range, and a Miele dishwasher, you may just find yourself out -

Cooking in a Jenn-Air Oven
Great Lamb RecipeJenn-Air Oven Microwave ComboI ran across this terrific recipe online. The author was kind enough to let me reproduce it here. Even though Easter has passed, it's still a great time for spring lamb. Also, this recipe shows how versatile the Jenn-Air oven really is. Of course, I'm biased. I had this same Jenn-Air oven in my last home. I loved it, and in full disclosure I previously worked for Jenn-Air. Here is the article/recipe in its entirety: Easter is the first great culinary weekend of the year. And it brings up that basic question: ham or lamb. This year it was lamb and it will be lamb next year, too. And, during the rest of the year, when we want a spectacular feast, lamb will be on our list. The lamb spent five hours in our Jenn-Air® Microwave/Wall Oven with V2™ Vertical Dual-Fan Convection System. This oven has all the space needed to hold a leg of lamb, in this case a very big 12-pound leg of lamb. With the space and circulation of the Jenn-Air® dual-fan convection system, our roast achieved a perfectly uniform heat treatment. After five hours, the meat was done, no pink, but still moist. That strong, consistent, uniform heat is the secret to success of this recipe. The recipe is titled Five Hour Lamb with Potato Gratin. Usually, “gratin” denotes adding cream and cheese to produce some rich, succulent potato extravaganza. Not here. No dairy at all. Just the lamb. Those potato slices -

Big Appliance Trends in 2017
Get the Latest Appliances at UAKCSee the Newest Appliances at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterIt seems like there is a long time between trends in appliances, and then suddenly everybody has something new going on. Now is one of those times when new trends seem to be taking off. Here are two big trends that could be with us for a while.Black Stainless Steel We've written about Black Stainless Steel before (see link below). It's got a good chance of being successful. It's very doubtful that it will replace Stainless Steel, but that doesn't mean that it won't carve out a niche of its own. Probably the biggest downside is the lack of consistency among brands. KitchenAid's Black Stainless Steel is a true black finish on metal. Samsung's Black Stainless Steel has a shiny luster (seems like a clear coating). LG's Black Stainless Steel looks more like a gray than black. Nevertheless, consumers seem to like these finishes. Time will tell.NEW APPLIANCE FINISHESConnected (Smart) AppliancesIt's happening folks. Smart appliances are here. There isn't just one solution, but a whole range of features available on appliances that "connect" our appliances with us or other devices and perform a variety of functions. Unlike a new appliance color or finish, there is less of a need for brands to adopt a common platform (though it would be nice). We're seeing appliances that connect with your smart phone, appliances with cameras inside, and appliances that will email you if you leave the door open. -

Bon Appetit Breakfast SandwichIf it looks this good...well, you guessed it - IT IS GOOD. Breakfast is one of my favorite meals. (Can you guess the other two?) OK, enough guessing. There's no guesswork in this recipe. Enjoy!!IngredientsSERVINGS: MAKES 1 Unsalted butter 1 English muffin, split 1 BA Breakfast Sausage patty 2 slices American cheese 2 large eggs, beaten to blend Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper Handful of chopped fresh chives Hot sauce and honey (for serving; optional)PreparationGenerously butter each half of English muffin on both sides. Mothers Day Gifts
3 Gift Ideas for MomYes you can give her an appliance for Mother's DayLet's get that old myth out of the way. IT IS OK TO GIVE AN APPLIANCE FOR MOTHER'S DAY! I was once told that a new dishwasher was just not romantic, and therefore inappropriate for Mother's Day. Nonsense. If you have an old broken down appliance, that she's been complaining about forever, there's no better time to replace it than now...Mother's Day. She'll be delighted. You might want to include a bouquet of roses or a box of chocolates, but the new appliance will be what makes the day really special. Here are three thoughts about what appliance you might want to consider: Buy something that is needed. If the old dryer shakes and rattles and is on its last legs (or leg), then it makes sense to replace it. Why buy something different, when that's what she really needs and wants? Buy something really special. If your thinking a new dishwasher would be great, but you really want to make an impression, and you're in a position to splurge consider one of the luxury European brands such as an Asko or Miele. Buy something unexpected. Does she like coffee? A new built-in coffee maker would be just the thing. Or, one of my personal favorites: a countertop convection oven from Wolf. What a great Mother's Day gift! Where could you go to find all of these neat gifts? Well, Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center, of course. Call or -

Electrolux Twins
New Built-In Refrigerator IdeaOld Concept: Surprising New BenefitsElectrolux Twins at UAKCFor many years the folks at Frigidaire/Electrolux had been known for offering an All Refrigerator and an All Freezer. Selling them as a combination was not a new idea, but the concept was slow to catch on. However, this may be an example of an idea whose time has come. The current Electrolux Twins are part of the luxury collection of appliances in the Electrolux brand, and are being presented as a good choice for a built-in refrigerator/freezer.There is a lot to offer here:1. Full-size built-in refrigerator, and full size matching freezer (72" wide)While the products are mirror images of each other, and are clearly made to match, they are indeed separate and can be purchased that way if you just want an all refrigerator or an all freezer. The features are fully updated with LED lighting, slide out glass shelves, etc. There are trim kits (faux grills) available for both the top and bottom that are 72" wide, and visually tie the two units together. The doors are configured in the photo so that the refrigerator and the freezer each open in the center, just as you would expect on a traditional side-by-side refrigerator/freezer.2. Traditional compressor in the back.Standard built-in refrigerators have the compressor on the top requiring an 84" height. The Electrolux units have the compressor and machine compartment on the back in the bottom of the appliance, are easier to access and do not require the 84" height.
