Appliance Rebates Expiring Soon
Rebates Come and Rebates Go Appliance rebates come and go for a variety of reasons. For example, over many years Maytag has always had a month long event May is Maytag Month. I'll let you guess when that sale begins and ends. :-) Rebate dates lasting several months or even a year often will end at the end of a three or six month period eg. March, June, September, or December. And somtimes, sale events and their rebates are holiday based beginning before and ending after specific holiday periods, such as Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, etc. Right now, at UAKC we have a number of ongoing rebates expiring at the end of May. Some of them are, in fact, connected with Memorial Day Sales (May 25th). Don't let these rebates get away from you. They vary in value, but as you can see with the GE example, the amounts are not trivial: Appliance Rebates Expiring in *May Rebates below expire on May 30 or May 31 unless otherwise noted. Smaller Appliances for Smaller Kitchens
More Appliance Choices for Small Spaces Small homes and condos can find more room in the kitchen with space-saving appliances. Fortunately, the field of smaller appliances has expanded greatly with appliance brands from Europe entering the field. Full size appliances in Europe are made to fit 60mm (24") cabinet widths rather than the 30" dimensions for most U.S. brands. In addition, many "apartment-sized" appliances have typically been de-featured and low-end models. No more. You can now choose from a wide-spectrum of brands from entry level to luxury brands made in more compact sizes. For example, standard dishwashers are designed to fit in a 24" space. However, there are a number of dishwasher brands that offer full-featured dishwashers that fit in an 18" space, such as the Bosch dishwasher. Click on the link below for a full description: Bosch 18" Dishwasher For those, that can't accommodate a full height dishwasher, Fisher & Paykel, as well as others, offer a space-saving dishwasher drawer. In cooking appliances, there are even more choices. Standard widths for ranges are 30", but choices abound in 24" or even 20" sizes. Here's a Bluestar range built for a 24" opening. Many cooktops, and ovens are 30", but here again there are many choices in 24" cooktops and ovens. UAKC, can even help you with a 2 burner cooktop if needed. Take a look at this Italian made Bertazzoni oven and cooktop made to fit a 24" opening. Click on the links below: Bertazzoni 24" Oven Bertazzoni 24" -

Perimeter Vent Hoods
Perimetric Ventilation A New Way of Venting Cooking creates smoke, odors, and airborne particulates. Vent hoods are needed to remove all this from the kitchen. For the most part, vent hoods do this with fans that pull the air from over the range or cooktop into the hood, through filters, and exhaust the air out. In the last few years, some hood suppliers have been using a perimeter suction system. Quite simply, rather than pull the air through large openings under the hood, the perimeter system creates suction by reducing the size of the openings to slits around the perimeter of the hood. Here are some of the appliance and vent hood companies now offering perimeter vent hoods: Whirlpool Whirlpool has recently introduced a chimney-style hood featuring perimeter venting with this claim: Perimetric venting technology concentrates kitchen hood suction to targeted zones on the cooktop while also reducing noise, an important feature considering that this hood has a powerful 400 CFM fan. The hood can provide even more noise reduction with the optional attic mounted in-line fan. Jenn-Air Jenn-Air was an early-adopter of the perimetric venting system with it's high fashion picture frame wall-mounted vent hood. It can be a nice focal point in the kitchen, and provides a powerful 600 cfm blower which is ideal as an accompaniment to one of Jenn-Air's powerful cooktops or ranges. Elica Speaking of fashion statements, Elica's Mini OM hood has perimeter ventilation which draws air through a narrow channel around the circular face -

50 Shades of Grey in Appliances
Grey Appliances at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterThere are many shades of grey in appliances.Even though stainless steel is the dominant color/finish in major appliances, most major appliance manufacturers offer choices in the colors and finishes that they produce, including shades of stainless, silver, and yes of course, grey.Stainless steel itself comes in different grades and types that also look different. Even within a brand or a given model there can be differences. For example, the stainless steel interior of a dishwasher can be an entirely different type of stainless steel and have a different finish than the dishwasher's exterior. Generally, manufacturers try to match the stainless finish on the outside of their appliances, but if you're mixing brands, you could easily find discernible differences in appearance from brand to brand.Frigidaire offers a stainless steel that is smudge-proof. It's real stainless steel that has been treated to prevent the feared fingerprint smudges. It does seem to work quite well. Both GE and Whirlpool have in the past offered lines of faux stainless, eg. painted silver appliances. A quick check of their websites shows a very limited offer of silver or satin appliances. However, GE introduced a line of Slate appliances a couple of years ago, that has become quite successful. It's a shade of grey that you might like very much. It's clearly NOT faux stainless steel and doesn't pretend to be, but it will provide your kitchen with -

Miele Appliances at KBIS/IBS 2015
New Miele Range a Winner in Las VegasMiele Appliances shown at KBIS/IBS 2015It's hard to come away a winner when you go to Las Vegas. But, the new Miele range was a good bet at the 2015 Design and Construction Week (*KBIS/IBS) show in January. Miele partnered up with some top kitchen brands (Haefele, Bauformat, and Cosentino) to showcase their luxury appliance brand. The new Miele Range, their first EVER, was a huge hit. (To clarify, Miele has been very successful in cooking products such as built-in cooktops and ovens over the years, but they've not ventured into the range business until now).Miele's range model line up consists of several configurations in 30", 36", and 48" ranges. The range line has been eight years in the making, and the attention to detail shows in the innovative features, and stunning Miele design, not to mention the durable construction. Miele's 30" range weighs in at 337 lbs. Compare that to the 160 lbs. of a typical Whirlpool gas range. You might also expect state of the art technology in a range of this class, and Miele does not disappoint. With a high-tech control panel that includes their exclusive MasterChef electronic controls, the new Miele features algorithms to perfectly cook many foods, and it will also store your own special recipes. Miele has taken a fresh look at every feature on a range. For example, Miele's unique range handle is designed to swivel from its vertical -

The BEST place for major appliances and plumbing fixtures
Why Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center is YOUR best choice If you're doing your due diligence on where to purchase new appliances and plumbing fixtures, you should consider Universal Appliance an Kitchen Center (UAKC). Here's why: The Other Guys Southern California has its fair share of appliance showrooms. Some focus exclusively on esoteric products, and have luxurious, look-but-don't-touch showrooms. They make you feel as if you need to present your credentials before entering. At the other extreme, you may want to think twice about appliance retailers that advertise with tag lines that say "New and Used" or "We Take Trade-Ins." Just as risky, is going to the big box stores where sales associates wear aprons and sell light-bulbs, and garden supplies along with appliances, and plumbing supplies. The UAKC Difference UAKC does have very nice showrooms (see video below) in great locations. Expect live appliance vignettes, and beautiful designer displays, as well as rows of gleaming appliances. No matter your interests, you're always going to feel at home at UAKC. Even if they don't have valet parking (lol), you're sure to be greeted with a smile by a knowledgable sales associate. At UAKC, you'll find a host of luxury brands such as Wolf, Sub Zero, Viking, Thermador, Miele, etc. available for the most refined and discerning tastes. In additon, you'll also find on display top mass brands such as GE, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, and more. This is a signature feature at UAKC. They'll work hard to match your wishes and desires, -

Energy Star Appliance News
New FIRST Energy Star DryersGet these new dryers at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterEnergy Star® appliances have been around for decades. Why are we just now getting electric dryers with Energy Star® ratings? The reasoning for not having Energy Star® rated dryers has always been that dryers were all about the same when it came to energy usage. Evidently, that has changed. The advanced moisture sensors that are available these days can give dryers equipped with this technology an edge over those using traditional thermostats to cycle on and off.Whirlpool has jumped on this development, and now has the first ENERGY STAR® dryers on the market. Below is what Whirlpool has to say about their new dryers, and a list of the qualified models:SAVE WITH THE Industry’s first ENERGY STAR® certified dryers. As the first appliance manufacturer to offer electric dryers with ENERGY STAR® certification, Whirlpool Corporation's energy efficient dryers now offer more opportunity to save on energy bills. These models exceed government efficiency standards by over 20%.
