Welcome to 2015
Facts and Trivia about the upcoming year. What's on tap for 2015? We're all looking forward to 2015. It's going to be a great year! Here are some interesting facts and trivia related to 2015 or MMXV as the Romans would have said. Did you know that 2015 has been proclaimed the International Year of Light? And of course, as we all know, 2015 is the 200th Anniversary of The Battle of Waterloo. Fought near Waterloo on June 18th, 1815 in what is today Belgium (then part of the Netherlands), Napoleon's French Army was defeated by a coalition of Anglo troops commanded by the Duke of Wellington, and a Prussian army under the command of Gebhard von Blücher. I was surprised to find out that Lithuania has become the latest country to adopt the Euro as their official currency as of Jan. 1, 2015. However, Great Britain is still on the Pound Sterling currency. It seems the Brits are still interested in re-establishing the British Empire. After all, the Brits did win The Battle of Waterloo...let's see, wasn't that 200 years ago? The most interesting date in 2015 is going to be - 05/15/2015. In Back to the Future Part II (1989): Dr. Emmett Brown, Marty McFly and Jennifer Parker time travel to October 21 of 2015 (the latest date in the Back to the Future Trilogy). Lawyers are abolished, automated clothing is in vogue and people travel in flying cars and on hoverboards. I can hardly wait to get -

Baked Ham For Christmas
Two Baked Ham Recipes: Two Different Glazes Recipes by Trisha Yearwood and Georgia Downard from the Food Network Ham glazes can be sweet and sugary such as Trisha Yearwood's recipe below with the brown sugar honey glaze, or they can be sweet with a little kick like Georgia Downard's brown sugar mustard glaze. Either way, you're going to have a succulent feast for your group. Baked Ham with Brown Sugar Mustard Glaze Recipe courtesy of Georgia Downard Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees Score top of ham into diamonds and stud center of each diamond with a clove. Place ham on a rack in a roasting pan and bake for 1 1/2 hours. In a bowl combine the sugar, mustard and vinegar and spread glaze evenly over ham. Bake for another 35 minutes Transfer ham to a platter and let stand 15 minutes before carving. Combine cloves, sugar and mustard and brush over Ham Steak. Bake in baking dish in 350 degree oven for 15 minutes until heated through. Ingredients 1 (12-pound) shankless skinless smoked cured ham Whole cloves for studding ham 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 1/4 cup prepared mustard 2 tablespoons cider vinegar Variation: GLAZED HAM STEAK WITH BROWN SUGAR MUSTARD GLAZE 1 to 2-inch Ham Steak 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 1/4 cup prepared mustard 2 tablespoons cider vinegar Baked Ham with Brown Sugar Honey Glaze Recipe courtesy of Trisha Yearwood Directions Adjust the oven racks to accommodate a -

Gift Cards for Last Minute Shoppers
Holiday Gift Card AdviceAdvice on Gift Cards from Forbes*. Consider Discounted Gift Cards: Available through online gift card exchanges. General Purpose Cards can be costly. Beware Visa and American Express cards that have extra fees. Look for Gift Cards that you've received but not used. More than $45 billion in gift cards have gone unused since 2005. Don't pay for shipping. 30% of gift cards from major online retailers charge for shipping. Buy Gift Cards with Rewards. For example, under Citibank’s rewards program, you need 10,000 ThankYou points to get $50 in cash back, whereas you only need 5,000 points (50% fewer) for a $50 gift card.Personally, in spite of Forbes admontion above, I tend to favor Visa or Mastercard Bank Gift Cards, when there are no extra fees. Check with your bank. I like them because they are usable anywhere. Another favorite for many is an Amazon gift card which can also be used to purchase nearly anything. If you're looking for a last minute inexpensive stocking stuffer, a Starbucks gift card is sure to please. Also, consider local businesses. Independent retailers may very well have their own gift cards. I know my local bookstore has their own gift card. It's a great gift idea for the readers on your list, and they get to pick the book of their choice. Then of course, cash is always king. There's nothing like a nice crisp bill or two in the Christmas stocking to put a smile on my face.*Forbes 12/19/2014 -

2015 Color of the Year
Pantone's Winning Color for 2015MarsalaThis hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.Leatrice Eiseman-Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute®In 2014, Pantone's Color of the Year was Radiant Orchid, a shade of purple lightened with a bit of pink. Below is a BlueStar Range in Radiant Orchid - dramatic for a splash of color, but hardly an underlying theme. For 2015, Pantone is taking a leap away from the boldness of the 2014 Color of the Year and moving to a beautiful wine colored Marsala, a deep red subdued by earthy brown. It's a welcome change. Marsala is a hearty red; a strong color that doesn't as much provide a splash of color as it does create a warm theme to build around. It works well in various environments, is gender neutral, rich and full, but at the same time, complex and subtle.I feel that it's a sophisticated color, almost regal, yet grounded and accessible. Designers will welcome Marsala because of its versatility in so many settings. -

Make Holiday Decorations Easier
Seasonal Decorating Throughout the Year When spring has sprung, that doesn't mean you should haul out the Easter decorations. Same thing is true for taking down Halloween decorations on Nov. 1st only to feel compelled to bring out the Thanksgiving themed displays on Nov. 2nd. There's a better way. Rather than worrying about decorating for the next occurring holiday, just think in terms of seasonal accents throughout the year that can be supplemented by Easter Bunnies, Ghosts and Goblins, Pilgrims with Turkeys, and Santa Claus without jumping ahead of the season. For example, winter suggests bringing out the heavy comforter, perhaps some red table napkins, and even a tasteful wreath. Those window stick-on snowflakes will also add to the seasonal feeling. This is all without a single Santa, or a premature Christmas tree. The nice thing about decorating for the season is that when it DOES become time to bring in the "official" Christmas decorations, you've got some of the work already done. AND when you take down the Christmas decorations, you can leave your winter-themed items in place. When Spring springs switch the heavy comforter for a light throw. Spring flowers real or scented silk floral arrangements can set the tone. The heavier, darker colors and fabrics you used for winter accents can be replaced with the fresher, lighter greens and yellows of spring. Again, the Easter eggs and the bunnies come later. Supplement the examples above with your own ideas. Using seasonal accents in your home can provide
