Appliance Finishes and Colors
Are Stainless Steel Appliances on the way out?Don't bet against Stainless SteelEvery so often we hear some predictions that stainless steel is on the way out as an appliance finish. Is that like to happen soon? No. Stainless steel is going to be the top choice for appliance buyers for years to come. Here's how it stands today:New constructionProduction home builders usually offer a base appliance package in white or black with an upgrade to stainless steel. Upgrading to stainless steel appliances continues to be a very popular choice for new home buyers.Custom homesProfessional/Restaurant style appliances are a top choice for custom homes buyers. Several of the top brands in this category only offer stainless steel, though some color selection is an option for Viking and Bertazzoni brands. (BlueStar, a pro-style line of cooking products has a very wide selection of colors.) In addition some elite luxury brands such as Le Cornue offer a selection of designer colors.Remodels and replacement salesCustomers who choose to replace their kitchen appliances from the popular entry level appliance brands, eg. GE, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire, available in white, black or stainless steel will almost always upgrade to stainless steel (except for basic apartment replacement sales). Though premium brands such as KitchenAid, GE Profile, or Bosch may be available in white and/or black, their sales skew heavily toward stainless steel. Kitchenaid has recently introduced a finish called black stainless steel that is getting a lot of attention.Whatever -

Small Appliances are Booming
Thinking Small (small appliances) at UAKCDeluxe 24" Appliances Now Available in SouCalUniversal Appliance and Kitchen Center has long been known for having the best selection of major appliances in all Southern California. That selection has been growing with all the new European sized 60cm. wide appliances that have been launched in the U.S. (60cm. is approximately 24 inches). For decades the standard size for U.S. ranges, cooktops, ovens, and hoods has been 30", and most single family homes today include 30" wide base and upper cabinets. However, for various reasons, there are large numbers of housing units in Southern California that have 24" wall and base cabinets that need 24" wide appliances. All the popular U.S. brand 30" wide ovens, ranges, and vent hoods won't fit in these cabinets, so only basic 24" apartment models have been available. That's all in the past, as new products are now available for 24" cabinets at a variety of price points and with a variety of features. For example, here is a new Bertazzoni stainless steel 24" wide gas range, a nice upgrade from a U.S. standard model. If you're looking for a full suite of built-in appliances in this category, you might start with Bosch, a European appliance manufacturer with a great reputation. Bosch is a premium brand, that has great quality, and at a price below the luxury category. Miele is also a European brand with a good selection of European size (60 cm) wide appliances. -

Navigating Through Appliance Rebates
UAKC Can Help You Save MoneySaving Money on Appliances with Rebates or FreebiesWhether it's just a basic washing machine or a full suite of luxury appliances, everybody wants to save money when buying major appliances. Here are some tips on how to save the most money when you purchase home appliances: Research appliance manufacturer offers. Do your homework. Find out what saving offers are out there. I just reviewed the Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center rebate page and discovered that there were nearly 50 separate manufacturer offers listed. Review them by clicking on this link:APPLIANCE REBATES Plan (group) your purchases. The more you buy, the more you save. This has never been more true than in the last few years as manufacturers have jumped on the package purchase bandwagon. Focus on a single brand if possible. Some customers prefer to follow a "best of breed" strategy. Looking for what they perceive to be the "best" refrigerator brand, then moving to the "best" cooking brand, "best" dishwasher brand, etc. While this seems to make sense on the surface, it's also a strategy to pay the most in each category, and lose any savings opportunity from making a single brand decision. Here are some of the savings opportunities available to you:Appliance Rebatesare the most common offer among appliance companies to encourage your purchase. They offer a dollar amount, usually in the form of a prepaid debit card, when a consumer purchases a specified number of the manufacturer's appliances. Free Appliance offerscan sometimes -

Choosing the Right Refrigerator Style
Selecting a New RefrigeratorBasic ConfigurationsThere are four basic refrigerator configurations that comprise the full-size home refrigerator category.Top Freezer style refrigerator/freezers are a bit of a dinosaur for most homes, but they are still found in apartments and in kitchens where space is really limited. They're at the bottom of the scale in price and features. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) can provide quotes for apartment managers, builders, and other multi-family needs. Bottom Freezer refrigerators, while not the most popular refrigerator configuration, are still preferred by some. A more modern version of the Bottom Freezer refrigerator is the French Door Refrigerator - a Bottom Freezer fridge with split doors above the freezer. French Door refrigerators have become very popular over the last 20 years as customers have opted for the convenience of a freezer on the bottom and full width refrigerator space on the top accessible by split doors. Recent variations of the French Door refrigerator configuration include multiple compartments and doors. Side-by-Side refrigerators have freezer space accessible through a door on the left side and refrigerator space on the other.Refrigerator depths and heightWithin the 4 refrigerator configurations, there are the different refrigerator depths that will affect how your refrigerator appears in the kitchen space.Full-Depth refrigerators can have a depth of 30 or more inches causing them to stick out from standard 24 inch cabinets and adjacent 25 1/2 inch countertops. Counter-Depth refrigerators while -

Save on KitchenAid at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterRebates of up to $1500 on KitchenAidKitchenAid made its name as an innovator many years ago with the first automatic dishwasher. It's a category that I refer to as "affordable luxury", or high-end appliances without the luxury appliance pricing.Outside of the dishwasher, KitchenAid also has some superb cooking products being a leader in convection technology, and an early adopter with induction cooktops. KitchenAid also introduced the first French Door model Built-In refrigerator/freezer. Also an innovator in style, KitchenAid has recently launched the black stainless steel collection of appliances. Here's what KitchenAid has to say about this new collection:THE COLOR OF CREATIVITYBlack stainless steel makes a bold addition to any kitchen. Who's on First?
Sorting out AppliancesChoosing the right washing machineWhen you're choosing a new washing machine several factors come in to play, and effect our decision. Here are a few of them.Size:You need a machine big enough to do the job. Tub size can matter, but remember that front load machines will hold more than equivalent sized top load machine, and sorting and frequency of washing need to be factored in when selecting tub size.Cost:Everyone has a budget. Appliances can seem expensive, but think about the life span and how often you use your washer.Features:There are an abundance of features on today's washing machines. Make sure to take advantage of this, and don't buy a stripped down machine. I remember hearing about a customer who insisted on the most basic washer available, and later complained that it lacked a permanent press cycle.Brands:Brands DO make a difference, and it's easy to get confused. For example, the Whirlpool Corporation owns and manufactures several appliance brands, eg. Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, and Jenn-Air. However, that does not mean that these brands are the same. For example, Whirlpool laundry products are high quality and hugely popular. Even though Maytag washers and dryers are made by Whirlpool Corp, there are significant differences between Maytag and Whirlpool. Maytag has many heavy duty, commercial parts, that are absent on the Whirlpool as well as a longer warranty and a higher price. You may need advice in choosing between the Whirlpool and the Maytag and weighing the value of heavy duty -
