Options for New Icemakers
Thinking about a New Ice Machine?Do you have a need for an icemaker in your wet bar? Or maybe you've remodeled and feel that an icemaker would be a perfect addition in the rec room, family room, or basement. Whatever your situation, you'll need to make a fundamental decision between two basic icemaker types. Two Types of Ice Machines1 Standard Ice MachineThe first type of icemaker to think about would be one that's similar to the icemaker in your refrigerator. The icemaker itself is a small freezer, that will fit under a standard 36" high counterop. Water flows into an ice tray, located in the icemaker where it freezes. The tray dumps the cubes into an ice bin where you can access them for your drinks. You need a water line and a standard 120v. hookup.2 Clear Cube Ice Machine An alternative to the ice machine described above as a standard ice maker, is an ice machine that produces clear ice cubes. These ice machines use a different process to produce ice. Water continually passes over or is sprayed upward onto a cooling plate or mold which gradually freezes the water so that it sticks to the mold or plate. Contaminents and impurities in the water fall away. The ice machine then drops the crystal clear cubes into the ice bin. Some models also make nuggets and even softer, chewable cubes. Clear cube icemakers do not have a freezer compartment to store the ice. Instead the ice in the bin melts -

President's Day Recognition
Washington's Birthday, Lincoln's Birthday, and More Three Day Weekend and Great Buys on Appliances and Plumbing Fixtures Even after all these years, there is still some confusion over what President's Day really is. In 1885, Congress established the national holiday of Washington's Birthday on February 22nd. Although Lincoln's Birthday, February 12th, had never been a recognized national holiday, it was an official state holiday in several states, and became widely observed through much of the country. In the 1960s there was a movement to create more 3-day weekends by shifting some holidays to Mondays. As part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act passed in 1968, Congress moved Washington's Birthday Holiday from February 22nd to the third Monday in February. President Nixon made it official with an executive order in 1971. While the Uniform Monday Holiday Act had wordage that described this holiday as a day to celebrate both Lincoln's and Washington's birthday, the name of the holiday was never officially changed, and to this day the Federal Calendar calls out the holiday on the third Monday in February as Washington's Birthday. The public, however, not only counts President's Day as a celebration of both Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays, but it is often regarded as a day recognizing all of our deceased presidents. Whatever your preference, President's Day is a 3-day weekend, and an opportunity to check out some great buys on major appliances and plumbing fixtures at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center. Which wine do you prefer?
White or Red? What do most people choose? Wine consumption seems to be at an all time high, but are we drinking more white or more red? U.S. wine consumption is more red than white (unless you live in Nebraska, Kansas, or Iowa). In France, they drink much more red than white. In fact, in France white wine is not even in second place. They drink more rosé in France than they do white wine, and of course more Champagne. Curiously, France was recently surpassed by China for red wine consumption. Bear in mind, that China has 1.3 billion population and France has about 66 million. Per capita, the Chinese average about a bottle and a half of wine per person per year. The French hold up their reputation with over 44 liters annually per person. In the U.S., we're doing out best to catch up and we managed over 10 liters of wine per capita in 2013. We're headed in the right direction and are expected to increase consumption to 386 million cases by 2017. GOOD JOB USA! Regardless of your preference, you can help the U.S. continue on its goal to exceed France in wine consumption! It's the patriotic thing to do. Clearly, you're going to need a new wine storage unit so take a look at our previous blog on the excellent choices for wine storage at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center by clicking on the link below: Wine Storage for the Holidays Call Universal Appliance and
