Suffering from "appliance duress"?
I recently heard a pundit comment that most major appliance purchases these days are "duress" purchases. That means that the old clunker quit working and you need to go get a new one NOW. Of course, the old one only quits when you're trying to scrape together the cash for junior's tuition, you just found out you owe the IRS thousands in taxes, and your insurance company rejected the claim for your facelift. I hate it when that happens! So here are three ways you can avoid appliance duress, and live the life that you've always wanted. 1. Don't wait! Shoot your tired old refrigerator now and put it out its misery. Seriously, waiting for disaster to strike when you're least able to handle it makes no sense. 2. Calculate how much you'll save (versus how much you'll spend) by acting now. You know that if your old washing machine is more than just a few years old it's gobbling up gas and/or electricity to heat the water and make all that noise. Don't forget to consider the money you're spending on clothes that are wearing out too soon because that rattle trap you call a washing machine is beating the heck out of your delicates. The point is that these savings are real and will help pay for your new appliance. 3. Set up a Christmas Club for your new purchase. It's a monthly deposit into a separate savings account to build a nest egg for your dream kitchen. -

Keep Your Dishwasher Running Smoothly
GE has been the leading manufacturer of home appliances for several years, and has also created a fleet of powerful and energy efficient dishwashers. Dishwashers serve one of the most important functions out of all home appliances: keeping your dishes clean and pleasant to eat off of. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center, a proud retailer of GE brand home appliances, has compiled some short tips and walkthroughs to make sure your brand new dishwasher lives up to its expectations. According to the manufacturers at GE there are four important factors for quality performance of your dishwasher, including the method of loading, water temperature, rinse aids, and the detergent you load it with. In regards to loading, you should always look to load the top rack with glasses and cups, as well as safe plastics containers. The lower rack’s purpose is to provide space for larger items such as pans, sheets and other cooking utencils. To utilize the performance of your new GE dishwasher, the water temperature must be set between 120 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit. To make sure the water is set at proper temperature, you should allow the water in your sink to run a moment while the dishwasher is prepping. The quality of detergent you use does not matter as much as the method in which you store it. To get the most out of your dishwasher, the detergent must be kept fresh and dry. There are a couple brands that GE ensures will get the job done -

Don't be afraid of convection.
We've been selling convection ovens in the U.S. for decades. Yet, there are still many customers out there who shy away from convection for several reasons. Here are some important points to keep in mind: Convection is an option. Though I regularly use this feature in my oven at home, there are times when I elect not to use it. My wife usually does not use convection, but there are times that she chooses to. It's up to you whether you want to use the convection feature in your oven or not. Convection is easy to use. Many convection ovens today have an auto conversion feature allowing you to set your oven just as you normally would. The oven then converts the time/temperature as needed for convection cooking of your favorite recpe. Convection is more expensive. Well, yes. However, in most cases if you want a manufacturer's better range or oven convection is an included feature - just as power steering and automatic transmission is more expensive, but you can hardly get a car without it. We plan on blogging more about convection, but first we'd like to hear from you. Post your questions and comments in the comments section and we'll have our experts reply. Speaking of experts, our sales staff at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center can provide the expert help you need to select your new convection oven or any other appliance you may need. AND they'll get you a great price too. Call them at: 888 -

3 things you should know before buying a new glass ceramic cooktop.
Congratulations! Whether you're purchasing a new smoothtop range or a separate ceramic cooktop surface unit, you can expect many years of great cooking results. Here are 3 key facts that you should know. Glass ceramic cooktops are fast. Back in the '70s appliance manufacturers introduced smooth cooktops made by Corning. Corning cooktops were very thick and slow to heat. Aided by ribbon elements, today's ceramic glass cooktops can quickly reach and maintain high temperatures. Glass ceramic cooktops are easy to clean. As with any surface, it's best to clean before spills bake on, but if that doesn't happen clean any hardened food off using a scraper. The surface can then be cleaned with a few drops of cleaner. Polishes designed for ceramic cooktops are readily available. Glass ceramic cooktops are durable. Laboratory tests show that these surfaces have great mechanical strength and can withstand substantial impacts. Low horizontal conductivity means heat is transferred directly to cooking vessels, and nearby areas remain reasonably cool. If you have any questions or comments about glass ceramic cooktops feel free to use the comment section below. As always, you can also contact the experienced folks at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center at 877-696-2982. Some material above was taken from http://www.us.schott.com/hometech/english/products/ceran/index.html. Schott Glass is a leading manufacturer of Ceran ® ceramic glass.
