Many Major Appliances are Made in the U.S.
Where are cooking appliances made? Customers often want to know where an appliance is manufactured. A surprising number of major appliances sold in the U.S. are manufactured here also. Let's take a look at cooking products. Here are where the Big 3 appliance manufacturers in the U.S. (Whirlpool, Electrolux/Frigidaire, and GE) make their ranges, cooktops, and ovens. Whirlpool Corporation also includes Amana, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and Maytag brands. They have a large facility (one million sq. ft.) in Cleveland, Tenn. where freestanding and slide-in ranges are built, as well as cooktops and wall ovens. In addition, they also build some ranges in their Tulsa, Oklahoma facility. Headquartered in Benton Harbor, Michigan, Whirlpool is the largest appliance manufacturer in the world. Over 80% of the appliances that Whirlpool sells in the U.S. are manufactured here. Whirlpool claims to employ more U.S. workers than all their competitors combined. Electrolux/Frigidaire has their range factory in Springfield, Tennessee, and has build a new cooktop facility near Memphis. It's worth noting that the Swedish firm Electrolux is the 2nd largest appliance manufacturer in the world, and has a major U.S. presence. GE makes ranges and ovens in their Roper facility in Lafayette, GA. GE also has strong ties to Mabe, a Mexican appliance company that builds GE's gas ranges. In spite of GE's affiliation with Mabe (GE has a 48% stake), GE is a leader in "insourcing", and has been adding appliance manufacturing jobs in the U.S. for several years. In addition, GE is quite proud -

Bottom Freezer Refrigerators at UAKC
Popular Bottom Freezer Refrigerator Style Advantages of Modern Bottom Freezer Refrigerators Refrigerators with the freezer on the bottom have been around for a long time. Much of the credit for popularizing this configuration goes to Amana. During the 80's and 90's when Side-by-Side refrigerators were all the rage, Amana continued to promote refrigerators with a freezer section on the bottom. Eventually, they introduced a version with double doors in the refrigerator section and the French Door refrigerator revolution began. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC) has been selling and promoting these refrigerator models for many years and carries most of the brands that offer this configuration. French Door refrigerators are also bottom freezer refrigerators because they do in fact also have a freezer on the bottom, but we're going to confine our review here to bottom freezer refrigerators with a single door on the top. Brands including Amana, Frigidaire, GE, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, Maytag, Fisher & Paykel, Sub Zero, Whirlpool and others are available with a freezer on the bottom. These refrigerators come in the following configurations: The freezer doors may swing out just as in the Amana below, but the most popular models have freezers that pull out. Styling varies. One of the more recent models introduced from the GE Artistry Series has a look that is both retro and trendy. Most bottom freezers refrigerators will come with an icemaker in the freezer compartment, and many will have internal water dispensers. Only a few manufacturers such as Fisher & Paykel -

Placement of a Microwave Oven
Where do you locate a microwave? Adding a microwave to an existing kitchen can be a daunting task. There are four places where microwave ovens are likely to be found in a kitchen, and there are advantages and disadvantages to each option. Here is the list of each choice and a discussion of their respective benefits. Feel free to contact the experts at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center for specific models and dimensions. Countertop Placing a microwave oven on a countertop is an obvious choice, and in the early years this is all way microwave ovens were located. The big, hefty Amana Radarange is iconic of this era. Countertop microwaves are convenient and are relatively inexpensive. Nevertheless, this is usually an undesirable solution because the microwave takes up valuable counterspace.Over-the-range GE invented the O-T-R micro-hood combination back in the 70's. The O-T-R microwave has become commonplace and often a standard feature in new homes. While the micro-hood gets the microwave off the countertop, the eye-level location is not ergonomically sound, and the ventilation system is generally considered inferior.Built-In to the cabinets This can be an ideal solution. A microwave oven in the wall located at the perfect height is going to be a homemaker's delight. However, there can be difficulties. Upper cabinets are generally only 12" deep and will only accommodate a very small microwave oven. This means that there must be a full depth -

Appliances and Plumbing Fixtures in 2014
More Great Appliance and Plumbing Values in 2014 Best Selection and Prices at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center What can customers expect in appliances and plumbing fixtures in 2014? The industry will continue to feature products which represent tremendous values for consumers. If you look at the price of a refrigerator thirty years ago, you'd find that a really good price on a side-by-side refrigerator with ice and water dispenser would be between $1300 and $1500. Today, you can get a side-by-side refrigerator with dispenser for around $1000, AND it will cost much less to operate than ever before! Think about that. Consider the cost of a new car thirty years ago and compare it with the cost of a new car today. The cost of cars has increased many times over! While luxury appliances can be very expensive, the range of prices and selections in appliances has never been wider. At Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC), customers can select from the finest appliances the industry has to offer, but they can also find major brand appliances to fit any budget. Popular priced mass appliance brands such as Frigidaire, GE, Amana, and Whirlpool are regularly featured at UAKC sale prices. Celebrate the Fourth of July with made in USA Appliances
Good News for Buyers of Made in the USA Appliances Get US Brand Appliances at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center If you are looking forward to the 4th of July holiday season with all the attending appliance sale events, you might think about buying American, and you might be surprised to find out that there are many good choices of high quality US brands made in the USA. Below is a blog we published last year detailing your options. It might be interesting and worthwhile to look at the landscape of appliance brands and manufacturing to identify the brands by nationality and by where they are manufactured. In other words, which brands are "American" brands and what is manufactured in the U.S. By the way, we mean "made" or "manufactured" to also include assembly. Most manufacturing facilities today are primarily assembly factories where parts are attached to a chassis. American brands of major appliances include Whirlpool and GE as full-line manufacturers. Whirlpool is the largest appliance manufacturer in the world though over half their sales are in the U.S. Their headquarters are in the U.S. and they are listed on the U.S. stock exchange. Whirlpool also makes and sells U.S. appliances under these brand names: Amana, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and Maytag. They claim that over 80% of the appliances they sell in the U.S. are made in the U.S. Though listed on the U.S. stock exchange, GE is a true multi-national, doing business all over the world making and selling everything -

Choosing an Appliance Brand
Popular Name Brands vs Unfamiliar Brands Make your choice at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center When it's time to shop for appliances, choosing the right brand is an important part of the decision process. In spite of what you may have heard, they're not all made by just a few manufacturers. To sort this out let's first discuss the big brand names. GE, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire are the big 3. These are mega companies, home to a host of other name brands as listed below: General Electric Hotpoint GE GE Profile GE Cafe GE Monogram Whirlpool Amana Whirlpool Maytag KitchenAid Jenn-Air Frigidaire Frigidaire Electrolux (Parent company) Electrolux Icon At the luxury end of the market some of the big names include Wolf SubZero, Viking, Thermador, and Miele. While all the brands referred to above are well-known and well-positioned in their market segments, there are other lesser-known brands that deserve consideration as well. Here are just 2 examples: 1. BlueStar BlueStar is a brand of high-end cooking products - ranges, oven, and cooktops. The brand is focused on serving the consumer that wants restaurant style appliances for the home. A unique capability of BlueStar is the ability to customize your range. Over 190 colors are available and burners may be configured to your liking. Even though BlueStar is not a household name, their factory in Reading, PA. has been building stoves since 1880. 2.
