Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Ratings and Reviews (10)
Customers Write (10) Edward excels and gives customer a "really good experience". Dy E. Los Angeles, CA I bought a dishwasher from Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center and had a really good experience. My sales person was Edward, who was very helpful, honest and offered me the best price I could find. The installers were on time and did a very good job. My last appliance was purchased at Sears and their customer service is just awful. I will buy again at Universal. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Ratings and Reviews (8)
Customers Write (8) Leon- 100% professional and very knowledgeable David W. Malibu, CA I was a high-end custom home builder for 20 + years, including homes on the Beach in Malibu and the hills of West LA. I recently discovered Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center. I visited the store on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. The salesperson who assisted me was Leon. He was 100% professional, very knowledgeable and placed no pressure to buy. Leon was hands down the best appliance sales professional I have dealt with in my entire career. The shop had a pleasing environment-almost a family feeling even though Universal is a sophisticated chain of appliance and kitchen specialty stores. Additionally, their prices were the best I have found. I am going to replace all the appliances in my kitchen to update and convert to a stainless steel finish and I will definitely purchase everything from Leon at Universal. I recommend Universal without hesitation. Experience the best in selection, service, and satisfaction - not to mention the GREAT PRICES you'll get when you shop at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center (UAKC). David W. is an experienced appliance buyer, but he'd never come across a sales professional like Leon, or a dealership that can match UAKC for service and price. He's replacing all the appliances in his kitchen, and plans to get everything from Lon at UAKC. Why do appliances cost so much?
How much should appliances cost? Thirty years ago a side-by-side refrigerator with ice and water through the door sold for around $1500. Today, you can get a name brand for side-by-side ice and water through the door for under $1000. Thirty years ago a Pontiac Le Mans cost $6230. Today an equivalent car would be over $25,000. Thirty years ago an Amana Radarange Microwave oven cost $599. Today, a very nice countertop microwave with many advanced features can be purchased for about $200. Thirty years ago a Chevrolet Camero cost $7571. Today, depending on the model it could be well over $30,000. So, appliances today are an outstanding bargain when compared to automobiles and other durable goods. Having said all this, it is true that appliance brands have had regular price increases over the past decade. The raw materials of appliances, steel and plastic, have increased in cost far beyond normal inflation rates, and other basic costs such as transportation (petroleum) have also increased greatly in the past decade. Appliance manufacturers are very good at taking advantage of cost savings opportunities and using technology to improve productivity, but they have already picked most of the low hanging fruit on the money saving trees. Therefore, prices are likely to continue to rise. Even though competition is fierce, it is likely that appliance prices will continue to rise in the foreseeable future. There are two lessons to be learned from this. If you need a major appliance, the time to buy one -

How important is a brand name?
Name brand appliances tell a story. Marketers use the term brand equity to describe the worth of a brand. Brands are built over time and firms invest millions in their brand image and reputation. A brand has meaning. It stands for something. A marketing executive once said, "A brand is a promise." When considering appliance brands, the brand tells a story. Major appliance manufacturers segment their brands to fit different buyers. For example, some brands are considered value brands. Value brands are built and priced to represent a value to entry level buyers who need performance at a price, i.e. good value on a tight budget. At the other extreme of the price spectrum are luxury and super luxury brands. These are the Cadillacs and Bentleys of the appliance industry and they carry a luxury cache' and a luxury price tag as well. In the middle are core or mass brands such as Whirlpool and GE that represent a wide range of choices and prices in the broad middle of the consumer market. Above the mass brands are premium brands that don't quite fit in the luxury category, but are a step up from the mass brands. Some marketers refine these brands even more adding for example, super premium brands, brands that are between premium and luxury. In any case, the story brands tell is related to the segment of the population that the brand is trying to represent. Customers sometimes self-select their own market category. Often demographics and income -
