American Brand Appliances vs What is made in the U.S.
Having just finished the 4th of July holiday season with all the attending appliance sale events, it should be noted that at least one of the big box stores - the guys who wear orange aprons - had a newspaper tab with a patriotic theme, Red, White, and Blue sale featuring a Korean appliance brand. It might be interesting and worthwhile to look at the landscape of appliance brands and manufacturing to identify the brands by nationality and by where they are manufactured. In other words, which brands are "American" brands and what is manufactured in the U.S. By the way, we mean "made" or "manufactured" to also include assembly. Most manufacturing facilities today are primarily assembly factories where parts are attached to a chassis.American brands of major appliances include Whirlpool and GE as full-line manufacturers. Whirlpool is the largest appliance manufacturer in the world though over half their sales are in the U.S. Their headquarters are in the U.S. and they are listed on the U.S. stock exchange. Whirlpool also makes and sells U.S. appliances under these brand names: Amana, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and Maytag. They claim that over 80% of the appliances they sell in the U.S. are made in the U.S. Though listed on the U.S. stock exchange, GE is a true multi-national, doing business all over the world making and selling everything from jet engines, to nuclear power plants, to major appliances. They are much less of a factor in world wide appliance sales than in the -

Buying new appliances - How to communicate with your sales associate.
Are you ever annoyed by all the questions salespeople seem to ask? Have you ever wondered why they seem to be giving you a quiz, instead of helping you make your purchase? Here's why this happens: Appliance sales folks work in an environment where there are many brands, many categories within the brands, and many products within the categories. Vastly different products perform different functions across a wide range of prices. When you bounce in and say you want a washer, the sale person has to ask a number of questions to help you find the product that most precisely fits your needs. It's impolite and impertinent to just jump in and ask a customer how much she can afford or how big her family is, so a series of questions related to the size of the washer that might fit your needs and showing a couple of examples in different price ranges might help narrow the field. Of course, the sales person might also want to know whether your interests are in a front-load or a top-load washing machine. One issue is that "you don't know what you don't know". As a buyer, if you don't know the advantages and disadvantages of a front-load washer vs. a top-load then it's the sales associates job to help explain this in order for you to make a determination of which product will work best for you. The more you learn, the better informed you are, and the more likely you are to -

Pro 48 from Sub-Zero - A Unique Kitchen Appliance
There are so many copycats in the kitchen appliance business that it's often hard to tell one product from another or recognize one brand from another. But when it comes to the Pro 48 Refrigerator/Freezer from Sub-Zero there is just nothing like it. Nothing else looks like the Pro 48, and nothing performs like it.First let's review a few of the unique design features of this product. It's probably the most eye-catching refrigerator out there if only for its sheer size. The bold professional look of the refrigerator doesn't seek to hide either. It stands out proudly and screams heavy duty. Large towel bar handles coordinate with Sub-Zero's sister Wolf range brand to give a family appearance. The Pro 48 can be ordered with a glass window in the refrigerator door or with a solid stainless steel refrigerator door. From the sturdy 4" legs at the bottom to the industrial appearance of the top grill vent, this unit has a top to bottom Professional look that will wow your guests every time they enter the kitchen. The design team at Sub-Zero didn't stop with looks alone, however. The glass on the door is triple pane and UV resistant. The upper grill flips up for easy access. The Pro 48 refrigerator can be built-in or, with an accessory kit, can be used in a freestanding application. There is an external temperature display with easy to read digital readouts so you don't have to open the unit and let all that cold -

Making the right choice for kitchen ventilation
One of the last kitchen appliance choices that customers make is often the ventilation system. It is, nevertheless, a very important choice. The reason that the kitchen is the most frequently painted room in a house is because of wall discoloration or grease buildup, often caused by ineffective ventilation. The considerations on choosing your hood or vent include ducting method, vent type, location, vent volume (cfm), sound level, style, and as always budget. Hood ducting methods may be to the outside or it may be re-circulating. Hood vent types include undercabinet mount, wall mount, island hood, liner inserts, and downdraftVent location will vary from blowers located inside the hood enclosure or located remotely.Vent hood volume is determined by the volume of air at a certain speed = cfm = cubic feet per minute.Sound levels for hoods are measured in sones.Hood styles vary greatly. An attractive hood vent can be a focal point of the kitchenHood prices can vary from a production budget model to a luxury European built custom hood costing thousands of dollars. As you can see, there is much more to making a good vent hood selection than meets the eye. Avoid making the mistake of choosing a vent hood that won't do the job you need. Three ways to save on appliances
Here's an explanation of three ways to save on appliances: FREE AppliancesMail-In RebatesInstant Rebates Free Appliance offers usually include a free appliance with the purchase of a specific kitchen appliance or kitchen appliances. For example, purchase a range or a cooktop + wall oven and get a free dishwasher. Sometimes manufacturers parlay the free offer so that if you purchase the necessary appliances to get the free dishwasher you can then purchase a built-in refrigerator and get a free vent hood or add-on appliance such as an icemaker, wine chiller, etc. for free.Mail-In Rebates are offers by appliance manufacturers to refund or "rebate" to consumers a specifc amount when they purchase qualifying appliances such as the KitchenAid appliance rebate below. The consumer must complete a rebate form or certificate, and send it in to the manufacturer along with proof of purchase. It can take up to 8 weeks to get the rebate.Instant Rebates are similar to the Mail-In Rebates above except that the dealer gives the customer the rebate at the time of purchase and gets re-imbursed by the manufacturer. Customers can save up to $2500 on Sub-Zero and Wolf kitchen appliances below. No matter what type of savings are being offered you can save the most by having an appliance expert at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center help you select the appliances that best suit your needs at the lowest total cost.
