Sub Zero Refrigerator Installation Options
Options for Installing your Sub-Zero Built-In Refrigerator It's no surprise that you want your Sub-Zero refrigerator to have a stunning appearance in your new kitchen. The kitchen is the heart of your home, and the new Sub-Zero refrigerator you are purchasing is the cornerstone of your kitchen. Here are some of the choices you may need to make regarding the configuration of your refrigerator that will determine how it looks in your kitchen. Perhaps you are buying one of the very popular standard Sub-Zero Built-Ins with a stainless steel front, such as the BI42SD. You may elect to have it installed (by Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center) in a standard 24" deep cabinet. The refrigerator cabinet itself is 24" deep. The doors will not be flush with the cabinet and stick out a couple of inches. Most of the time this is not a big issue, and the stainless version is by far the most common configuration of a standard built-in refrigerator. There are some more custom options with this model, however. It is possible to have a flush inset installation if the refrigerator is recessed or with deeper cabinets. You may also want custom wood panels that match the cabinets. In that case you can order the refrigerator without the stainless steel doors so that it will accept custom panels. You may elect to have the custom panels fit into a frame for a framed installation, or you could have them installed as custom overlay panels which would be -

Today we celebrate Columbus Day as a Federal holiday on the second Monday of each October. However, the first celebration of Columbus Day was organized in 1866 by Italian residents of New York City. It wasn't until 1937 that President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared all October 12th's as Columbus Day, but in 1971 it was declared by Congress that the second Monday in October be recognized as a national holiday. So Monday October 8th, 2012 is Columbus Day, and it is only fitting that Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center UAKC would have some special offers to help celebrate the Holiday. Join the celebration and save now on these great deals. This price on a deluxe Stainless Steel KitchenAid dishwasher can't be beat. It's a $350 savings off the regular price! And the Giant 28 cu. ft. New Appliance Colors - Are they for you?
Is Stainless Steel on the way out? Whirlpool and GE have recently launched new appliance colors in an effort to unseat stainless steel as America's favorite appliance finish. Even Wolf has begun production of its ovens in black in order to provide an alternative to stainless steel. The Wall Street Journal recently ran a feature article, Is this the end of a 25 year run for stainless steel? In the article, author Ellen Byron writes, "It is a pivotal moment in kitchen design: While stainless steel is still the dominant look, there are clear signals it has outworn its welcome, even with no clear successor in place." It isn't every day that the big names such as GE and Whirlpool launch new colors. It's a serious effort to at least put a dent in the hegemony of stainless steel. Launching new finishes is a costly proposition. Especially considering that unlike washer/dryer colors, kitchen appliances must be matched across a wide variety of platforms, eg. refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, ovens, cooktops, and even vent hoods. Whirlpool has launched its new "Ice Collection" of appliances a glossy black finish with stainless trim and a similar glossy white finish. "White is the new stainless" Whirlpool claims in their press release. However, there is hardly unanimity among competitors. Wolf claims, "Black is the new stainless steel" in announcing its new line of black wall ovens. Not to be outdone, GE has introduced a new line of appliances in -

How Long Do Appliances Last?
When should I replace a major appliance? Seems like an easy question to answer doesn't it? There is a chart below that shows the average life of appliances, but there really is much more that you should know, to decide if it is time for you to replace an appliance. The chart below shows the average life of appliances by category. So, if a refrigerator has an average life span of 13 years that means that some refrigerators last 20 years or more and others don't last past 5 years. There are many reasons for this. Some users maintain their appliances better than others. When was the last time you brushed the dust off your refrigerator condenser coils? Some owners simply use their appliances more often than others. Some dishwashers get used nearly every day, and others only once a week. Some brands and appliance models are built to last longer. Research your purchase to get the most durable appliance you can. There is a law of averages at work here. There is no way you can tell for sure whether any individual appliance will break down before or after its average life expectancy date. Of course, sometimes perfectly good refrigerators get "retired" because homeowners want to replace them with the latest and greatest models. Maybe they can justify a new purchase by moving the old unit up to their cabin, or give it to a son or daughter who is just starting
