Advances in Refrigerators
We've Come a Long WayGE Refrigerator with Keurig Coffee Cartridge at UAKCGeneral Electric (GE) recently launched a new French Door Refrigerator that sports a Keurig Coffee Cartridge. Owners of this refrigerator can clear their countertops of coffee makers. The GE refrigerator with the Keurig Cartridge will brew up a fresh cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc. just like a Keurig coffee maker.Frankly, when I first saw GE's new fridge being demonstrated at a trade show, I smiled and dismissed this as just another gimmick. Recently, I asked myself if I was giving this a fair hearing. Back in the 70's manufacturers added water and ice dispensers in the doors of refrigerators, I'm sure that someone like me thought that was silly. After all, how hard is it to open the door of your refrigerator to access ice and water. Jeez!!Seriously, making a fresh, hot cup of coffee or other hot beverage, quickly with no muss or fuss is pretty cool. So, here's the scoop direct from GE on this new innovative refrigerator feature.GE CAFÉ™ SERIES ENERGY STAR® 22.2 CU. FT. COUNTER-DEPTH FRENCH-DOOR REFRIGERATOR WITH KEURIG® K-CUP® BREWING SYSTEMCHOOSE YOUR BREWThe single serve brewer is designed to accept a variety of K-Cup pods so you can enjoy coffee, tea, cider, and hot cocoa all from the refrigerator. Plus, it’s dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.FILTERED FRESHNESSEnjoy coffee made with fresh, filtered water thanks to our exclusive filtration system. Microwave Oven Advances Improve Results
Speed Cook Advantium Microwave from GEIf it's been a few years since you've purchased a microwave oven, you owe it to yourself to check out the advances in microwave technology that have occurred. For example, GE's Advantium® technology described below provides unsurpassed results thanks to halogen lights:WHAT IS ADVANTIUM TECHNOLOGY?Advantium technology harnesses the power of light. The outside of the food is cooked like a conventional oven, with radiant heat produced by halogen bulbs above and below the food. This halogen-produced heat receives a boost of microwave energy. The result? Foods brown and cook evenly and fast, while retaining their natural moisture. In addition to the cooking excellence, Advantium® allows you to cook using FOUR different modes:ADVANTIUM PROVIDES VERSATILITYAdvantium offers 4 ovens in 1 - Speedcook,True European Convection, Sensor Microwave, and Warming/Proofing ovens - and comes in several different configurations to fit any kitchen design.Advantium ovens are available as Over-the-Range Micro-Hood combination, Single Wall-Oven, Combination Advantium Conventional Wall-Oven. Pros and Cons of Stainless Steel Appliances
Choosing Appliance FinishesStainless steel appliances are de rigueur these days. It seems that whether you live in a tract home or a mansion, you're going to end up with stainless steel. Everyone will tell you that you need stainless steel for you home's resale value, and there may be some truth in that. In addition, in some more exclusive brands, it appears that stainless steel is all that they offer. It wasn't always this way, but stainless steel gradually took over when people started expressing an interest in restaurant or commercial style appliances in their kitchen. Here are some of the other reasons homeowners give for choosing stainless:Sanitary "hospital" cleanliness.Doesn't rust or stain (Duh - it's stainless).Appealing, shiny appearanceEasily wipes offDurable finish - can't chipenhances resale value of houseSome products are available only in stainless (eg. built-in coffee maker)While stainless steel is not going away soon, there are many alternatives. White and black are still standard finishes for entry level brands. Frigidaire has a version of stainless steel that doesn't show fingerprints -really, it works. GE has a slate finish which clearly isn't stainless, it's a dull grey finish, but works for a faux stainless look without the disadvantages of stainless. It accepts magnets and doesn't require the polishing. Most premium brands will also offer white and black appliances with stainless upgrades, though I've heard of at least one brand offering customers a choice of only black or stainless appliances. Moving up to luxury brands, color -

Choosing a new luxury range
3 Reasons to upgrade your rangeIf you're shopping for a new range (stove), at some point your sales associate will need to know whether you want a "standard" range such as those provided by the big name household appliance companies GE, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire (Electrolux), if you'd rather narrow your selection to luxury ranges for example, Wolf, Viking, or Thermador. You might even want something in between, maybe KitchenAid, Bertazonni, or Bosch. While budget is always important, there are other considerations when moving up from standard model ranges to more deluxe brands and models. Here are three common situations: 1. New luxury homeSo, you're moving into a new neighborhood with custom homes, and a luxury kitchen is de rigueur. Let your sales associate know that you'd like to confine your search for ranges to the more premium brands. 2. Upgrade or Kitchen RemodelIf you are doing a complete remodel of your kitchen, this would be a good time to consider elevating your appliance selections, especially when it comes to cooking appliances. Here's where the Goldilocks rule comes into play. You want appliances that are right for your future home - not too basic, not too luxurious, but just right. Consider, the eventual resale value of your house. If your neighborhood has greatly appreciated over the years, your new kitchen needs to be be able to capture that growth in value with appliances that meet the expectations of a more exclusive buyer. 3. Gourmet ChefWhile it's important to have appliances that
