Choosing a New Range
3 Fuel Types and 3 Types of Ranges If you're building or remodeling and thinking about your new range, here are some options to consider. Fuel Types Before we look at the different style types, let's consider the different fuel types of ranges. Electric and gas ranges are the basic choices. Practically speaking, however, you may not have a choice. Some homes are total electric. Even if you have both gas and electric, you may not have a gas stub or 220v electrical service near your range location which will limit you to one or the other unless you choose to pay to have a gas or electric line brought in. An option that is becoming increasingly popular is Dual-fuel. Dual-fuel ranges have gas cooking surfaces and electric ovens. Types of Ranges Freestanding RangeA freestanding range often has controls and/or clock located on a back panel that rises above the surface of the range. It also has finished side panels that allow it to be installed at the end of a cabinet run. The above Maytag freestanding range has two ovens, a configuration that is growing in popularity. Slide-in RangeSlide-in ranges have controls in the front, no back panel, and have a lip on the top which slides over the adjacent cabinet countertop on each side of the range. This gives the unit a built-in look. Slide-in ranges typically have unfinished sides. Drop-in -

Save on Maytag at UAKC
Memorial Day Sale on All-American Brands like Maytag Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center For more than a century, Maytag brand appliances have been synonymous with dependability and durability. Today, Maytag brand’s unequaled tradition of quality production and unrivaled performance continues to thrive. Exceptionally durable, commercial-grade components are found in Maytag brand appliances. The Maytag Difference Maytag limited warranties cover some of the hardest working parts on many of our appliances in every category. What's Inside Matters™ For over 100 years, you've heard a lot about our drum rollers and drawer gaskets, our belts and hinges-the commercial grade parts we put inside our appliances. Those parts matter. They make our machines among the most dependable washers, ranges and refrigerators around. But we realize you don't serve gaskets at your dinner parties. And that you've probably never fluffed and folded a roller. We know that dependability means something a little more to you than just parts and pieces. It means having cold champagne to pop when the clock strikes midnight. Having virtually spotless glasses when your friends drop in. And cutting into a perfectly baked cake on your daughter's 10th birthday. It means having all the stuff you depend on clean, cold and cooked - on time, every time. The way we put our machines together is never going to change. But we understand that the reason you depend on them is not only because of what we put inside them, but also because of what you put inside them. We get -

Choosing an Appliance Brand
Popular Name Brands vs Unfamiliar Brands Make your choice at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center When it's time to shop for appliances, choosing the right brand is an important part of the decision process. In spite of what you may have heard, they're not all made by just a few manufacturers. To sort this out let's first discuss the big brand names. GE, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire are the big 3. These are mega companies, home to a host of other name brands as listed below: General Electric Hotpoint GE GE Profile GE Cafe GE Monogram Whirlpool Amana Whirlpool Maytag KitchenAid Jenn-Air Frigidaire Frigidaire Electrolux (Parent company) Electrolux Icon At the luxury end of the market some of the big names include Wolf SubZero, Viking, Thermador, and Miele. While all the brands referred to above are well-known and well-positioned in their market segments, there are other lesser-known brands that deserve consideration as well. Here are just 2 examples: 1. BlueStar BlueStar is a brand of high-end cooking products - ranges, oven, and cooktops. The brand is focused on serving the consumer that wants restaurant style appliances for the home. A unique capability of BlueStar is the ability to customize your range. Over 190 colors are available and burners may be configured to your liking. Even though BlueStar is not a household name, their factory in Reading, PA. has been building stoves since 1880. 2. Speed Queen Speed Queen is a laundry company headquartered in Ripon, Wisconsin. They are a leading manufacturer -

Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Ratings and Reviews (13)
Customers Write (13) Nicholas likes Maida's "very professional help" I was in the market for three appliances (stackable washer/dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher) and kind of stumbled onto Universal Appliance at Laurel Canyon/Ventura. I was eating at one of the nearby restaurants in the 'mini-mall', saw the store and ventured in. It was very impressive...the showroom space is a lot larger than it first appears. They have a large selection of current model appliances from all of the major manufacturers...mostly medium and high-end brands. I ended up buying a Bosch dishwasher, Jenn Air refrigerator and Maytag stackable washer/dryer. What initially 'sold' me was the very professional help that I received from Maida, one of the sales associates. I had a few logistic/space problems that she helped me overcome. She would scour the computer for inventory and print up sheets on what I was considering. She would then take me to the exact model (or one similar) on the floor to discuss advantages/drawbacks of each appliance. The prices were totally competitive with what I had seen at the two other major appliance stores I had already shopped. There was no major wait (maybe a week?) to get the items. The delivery guys showed up on time and installed everything properly. I did have one issue with the dryer not heating and within two days of my call, they sent someone out who was able to troubleshoot the problem and fix it quickly (at no charge). What I liked about Maida is that she -

American Brand Appliances vs What is made in the U.S.
Having just finished the 4th of July holiday season with all the attending appliance sale events, it should be noted that at least one of the big box stores - the guys who wear orange aprons - had a newspaper tab with a patriotic theme, Red, White, and Blue sale featuring a Korean appliance brand. It might be interesting and worthwhile to look at the landscape of appliance brands and manufacturing to identify the brands by nationality and by where they are manufactured. In other words, which brands are "American" brands and what is manufactured in the U.S. By the way, we mean "made" or "manufactured" to also include assembly. Most manufacturing facilities today are primarily assembly factories where parts are attached to a chassis.American brands of major appliances include Whirlpool and GE as full-line manufacturers. Whirlpool is the largest appliance manufacturer in the world though over half their sales are in the U.S. Their headquarters are in the U.S. and they are listed on the U.S. stock exchange. Whirlpool also makes and sells U.S. appliances under these brand names: Amana, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and Maytag. They claim that over 80% of the appliances they sell in the U.S. are made in the U.S. Though listed on the U.S. stock exchange, GE is a true multi-national, doing business all over the world making and selling everything from jet engines, to nuclear power plants, to major appliances. They are much less of a factor in world wide appliance sales than in the
