Think small in luxury appliances
Gaggenau 24" wide combi oven Gaggenau 12" wide gas cooktop module Fine appliances don't need to be giant sized. The big 48" Pro SubZero refrigerator is spectacular, but just won't fit in many kitchens - regardless of budget. In fact, there are a growing amount of deluxe kitchen remodels that are space constrainted more than budget constrained. The good news is that with all the luxury European brands out there, which tend to be smaller in size, you don't have to sacrifice quality even if you have only a small kitchen space. Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center can help you get top brand, beautiful appliances to fit your budget AND your space requirements. Check out some of the European brands such as Miele, Gaggenau, and Liebherr for products that are high end but fit in tight spaces. Make a good fit.
Appliances need to "fit" your home in more than one way. Sure the dimensions must be right, but appliances must also be "right" for your house in value perception. If you live in a mansion in a luxury gated community, you wouldn't show off a 17 cu. ft. top freezer mass brand refrigerator (Frigidaire, Amana, Hotpoint) in your gourmet kitchen. On the other hand, if you have an entry level production home, you probably should not be installing a $12,000 built-in refrigerator (SubZero, Miele, Gaggenau) in a galley kitchen. Admittedly, these are extreme examples. If the budget allows, consider "taking it up a notch" on your appliances. Let your kitchen sell your house by being the best available when compared to other homes in the same price range, but do not let your kitchen far exceed the kitchens in comparable homes or you will not get a return on your investment. Worse yet, is the luxury home with cheap looking appliances and brands that don't fit with high end buyer expectations. Real estate experts say installing bargain basement appliances in a luxury home, can greatly reduce the value of the home and make it hard to sell. Fortunately, Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center carries most major brands from economy mass brands to the most esoteric luxury appliances. Cooking with steam
Remember the pressure cooker? Ever had a rice steamer? Cooking with steam has been around for a long time, yet major appliances have begun adding steam features to their ovens and ranges as if they'd discovered something new. Ovens with steam are available in countertop versions, wall ovens, or in ranges. Brands include Sharp, Miele, Thermador, KitchenAid, Gaggenau, Wolf, and Viking. Most people are probably familiar with steamed vegetables or at least steamed rice. In addition to the obvious benefits of the freshness of steamed vegetables, cooking quickly at lower temperatures also helps retain important vitamins and minerals. Proponents of steam cooking also point out the benefit of reduced fat content. Fat helps keep food moist, but that's not necessary when using steam, so less fat and no basting is necessary. Gourmet Chefs will marvel at the ability to use a steam oven to make stunning creme brule without a water bath, or to bake fresh moist salmon avoiding the fish en papillote (parchment) regimen. The rest of us will marvel at how good leftovers taste when they can be re-heated without drying out. For more information on cooking with steam contact the experts at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center in Studio City at 12050 Ventura Boulevard PH 877 696-2982. They've not only got the best selection, but also the lowest prices. -

Don't be afraid of convection.
We've been selling convection ovens in the U.S. for decades. Yet, there are still many customers out there who shy away from convection for several reasons. Here are some important points to keep in mind: Convection is an option. Though I regularly use this feature in my oven at home, there are times when I elect not to use it. My wife usually does not use convection, but there are times that she chooses to. It's up to you whether you want to use the convection feature in your oven or not. Convection is easy to use. Many convection ovens today have an auto conversion feature allowing you to set your oven just as you normally would. The oven then converts the time/temperature as needed for convection cooking of your favorite recpe. Convection is more expensive. Well, yes. However, in most cases if you want a manufacturer's better range or oven convection is an included feature - just as power steering and automatic transmission is more expensive, but you can hardly get a car without it. We plan on blogging more about convection, but first we'd like to hear from you. Post your questions and comments in the comments section and we'll have our experts reply. Speaking of experts, our sales staff at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center can provide the expert help you need to select your new convection oven or any other appliance you may need. AND they'll get you a great price too. Call them at: 888
