Refrigerator Dispenser vs Non-Dispenser Models
When buying a new refrigerator one of the choices you're likely to face is whether you want an external water and ice dispenser or not. Here are the advantages and disadvantages: Advantages of non-dispenser model refrigerators. Most designers agree that external water and ice dispensers are an esthetically unpleasing feature, and detract from the kitchen design. Non-dispenser refrigerators cost less. Most non-dispenser models are available in versions to accept cabinet panels. Many dispenser models are not. Cleanup is an issue. Wood on dispenser models with cabinet panels can discolor or warp. Ice can jam and clog in dispensers. Advantages of dispenser models refrigerators. Convenience. No need to open refrigerator door to get water. Convenience. No need to open freezer door to get ice. Ice dispensers usually offer a choice of cubes or crushed. No such option exists on non-dispenser models. Other nifty features exist on dispensers models such as measured fill, auto fills, and contol lock. Each brand has its own features for its non-dispenser and dispenser models. Several brands offer an internal water dispenser. Sub-Zero just introduced an internal ice and water dispenser. GE has a new external dispenser that has room to hold a pitcher or a coffee pot. Good things NOW come in small packages
There was a time if a person wanted a nice up to date fully-featured refrigerator in a French Door configuration, she needed a large 36" space. Folks with galley kitchens or smaller spaces for refrigerators as often as not had to settle for low end top freezer configured apartment style refrigerators. Well, no more. Customers don't have to settle for low end just because they don't have a lot of space. Here's an example. Check out this beautiful new French Door Refrigerator from Whirlpool that fits in a 30" space. It is loaded with deluxe features, and it has the most usable capacity in its class. This gorgeous refrigerator is Energy Star Tier 2 CEE rated, and uses less energy than a 50 watt electric bulb. Features include humidity controlled crispers, a full width pantry with separate temperature control, spill-saver glass shelves, and more. It's available in White, Black, or Stainless Steel. New Design Trend: Appliances where you need them
There's an old kitchen design principle called the work triangle. Refrigerator, range, and dishwasher make up a triangle and need to be located within a certain proximity of each other. But rules are made to be broken and there is a new trend in kitchen design that has appliances being located in new and sometimes unusual locations. For example, Sub Zero and other manufacturers now offer undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers, beverage centers, ice makers, and wine cellars. Families can now use a small refrigerator in a refreshment area so the kids to get cold snacks when they come home from school. Freezers drawers in the pantry area can be used for long term food storage. The entertainment area can feature an ice-maker along with the wine cellar, and dish drawers next to the sink in the wet bar. Microwave drawers, warming drawers, built-in coffee makers, and duct-free downdraft cooktops also open up new location opportunities. The key is that design should be about how you want to live, and not follow outdated rules. Spring Cleaning: 7 tips for maintenance of your refrigerator
As promised here is advice from the experts on cleaning and maintenance of your appliances. Today we'll cover the refrigerator. Future posts will cover your oven, dishwasher, vent hood, and microwave. To clean the cabinet exterior you can use any commercial kitchen cleaner or even baking soda. With baking soda, be sure to rinse throughly and dry with a soft cloth. If the cabinet is stainless steel, there are a variety of stainless steel cleaners available. Use sparingly to avoid streaking. Remove the front grill and vacuum under the front of the refrigerator. Clean the drip pan. Slide the refrigerator out and vacuum behind the refrigerator. Also vacuum the coils thoroughly. Clean the inside with a damp cloth. One expert recommends using a sponge soaked with vanilla extract to deodorize. Place an open box of baking soda in the refrigerator to absorb odors. Replace every 90 days. If you have a water dispenser check the filter and replace as recommended. Always replace at least once a year, regardless of usage. Check back in a day or two for tips and tricks on cleaning and maintaining your oven. For recommendations on a new refrigerator, be sure to check with your sales associate at Universal Kitchen and Bath Center at 12050 Ventura Blvd. Suite B-105, Studio City CA 91604 PH 877 696-2982 -
