If you've traditionally thought of microwave ovens as something to heat up water for tea, or re-heat leftovers, you should take a look at how speed cook microwave ovens use 21st century technology to give you oven quality food with microwave speed. Here's what Consumer Reports has to say about the powerful new microwave ovens: Speed is being joined by smarts as the big brands heat up their microwave oven lines. Many now have sensors that automate a number of cooking chores beyond popcorn. Sales-hungry manufacturers are also adding convection cooking and other features aimed at homeowners who want a second oven without having to remodel. - CR How do SpeedCook microwave ovens work? 3 Appliances that keep your kitchen cool
Want to keep your kitchen cool this summer? Try these appliances from Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center Summer is here and hot kitchens are the norm. How can appliances help keep your kitchen cool? Take a look at three appliances that will do the job: Maytag Double Oven RangeThe Maytag Gemini double oven range features a small oven over the main oven. The convenience of cooking meals in the smaller upper oven has the added benefit of not needing to heat up that big oven for a small meal. It will cook a pork tenderloin, roast a chicken, or even bake a lasagna. All in the same time or less than the big oven. GE Advantium® Speed Cook Micro-HoodWhile microwave ovens cook quickly without heating up the kitchen, their performance can leave you cold. Breads and other baked products tend to dry out. Meats don't brown or carmelize. There is a new generation of "speed cook" appliances that combine microwave cooking with other methods to get the best of both worlds. GE's Advantium® system uses a combination of microwave power, halogen lights, and conventional elements to cook faster than a conventional oven, yet produce oven quality taste and texture that cannot be achieved with microwave alone. The Advantium® is available as a micro-hood and a built-in oven; in both 120v and 240v versions. Understandably, the 120v Advantium® is not quite as speedy as the 240v -

Microwave Ovens in a Kitchen Island
Installing a microwave in a kitchen Island. Utilizing an island for kitchen appliances is often just a case of good space planning. Designers are increasingly installing microwave ovens in the kitchen island. Microwave ovens can be problematic against a wall where upper cabinets a) may not make sense ergonomically, and b) don't fit in a standard 12" deep cabinet. The island turns out to be a logical and convenient location for a microwave oven. The easily accessible microwave oven under the counter is a good example of universal design at work. Consumers can choose from an inexpensive countertop microwave with trim kit, or if they don't like the side swing door, several manufacturers offer built-in options with drop down doors. Some companies even have microwave ovens which have a motorized drawer. Here are three brands that offer good options for island microwaves: KitchenAid KitchenAid offers a choice of built-in microwave ovens that can work nicely in an island. The oven below is a 24" wide oven that comes with a 27", and 30" trim kit so that it can work in a 24", 27", or 30" cabinet. KitchenAid also offers a very powerful built-in Micro-Convection oven that is available in a 240v. version.Sharp Sharp is a leader in microwave ovens and pioneered the microwave drawer. They also source microwave drawers for a number of other leading brands. The Sharp microwave drawer is available in both a 27" and 30" version. [caption id="" -
