New French Door Refrigerators from Sub-Zero
French Door Refrigerators have become very popular over the last decade. However, there hasn't been much selection of French Door Refrigerators in the built-in category. Not until now, that is. The leading manufacturer of built-in refrigerators, Sub-Zero, has introduced a 36” French door refrigerator/freezer, the latest addition to their line of built-in refrigeration. The French-door style is popular for its looks and appreciated for its functional benefits. Open either of the two, 18”-wide doors independently, or open them together for full access to the refrigerator’s interior even in narrower spaces.Like all Sub-Zero built-in models, it maintains strict standards for reliability and performance, and is available in timeless stainless steel or ready to be fitted with a custom panel overlay. Fresh foods need chilly, humid air to stay fresh. Frozen foods require frigid, dry air to preserve flavor. Yet the typical refrigerator-freezer compromises, using a single compressor that lets air circulate between the two sides. Not with Sub-Zero. They don’t compromise food’s freshness and flavor. Their built-in has dual refrigeration — separate, sealed systems for refrigerator and freezer that ensure optimum preservation conditions for each type of food.Digital controls keep the temperature within 1°F of where you set it. Doors seal magnetically on all four sides, locking in cold air and saving energy. There’s even a “fridge within a fridge,” a lower-temperature, higher-humidity zone that keeps vegetables crisp and flavorful even longer. To help you make the most of all this innovative food preservation -

Choosing a Built-In Refrigerator
Choosing a built-in refrigerator can be a daunting task. Not only is it a major investment, but there are many considerations and options. Simply categorizing and listing the choices may be of some help so let's break it down. First, what is a built-in refrigerator? It's a category of refrigerator designed to fit in an enclosure as a permanent part of the kitchen flush or nearly flush with surrounding kitchen cabinetry. We should distinguish between built-in refrigerators and counter-depth refrigerators. Built-in refrigerators are designed to be...well...built-in and attached to adjacent cabinets. Counter-depth refrigerators are versions of free-standing refrigerators, but with shallow depths. Their shallow depths allow them to roll in to a standard refrigerator cut out and fit nicely, only sticking out a few inches from a standard 24" depth cabinet, but of course, they are not built-ins.In the past, built-in units have typically been 84" tall with compressors mounted on the top. Some European brands of built-ins now have compressors in the bottom, but are still taller than free-standing or counter depth refrigerators and are fully-flush with surrounding cabinets. Built-in refrigerators are available in widths ranging from 27" wide to 48" wide. Many built-ins have depths that are 24 - 25" so that they can be installed to fit flush with surrounding cabinetry.Built-in refrigerators are available in side-by-side, bottom-freezer, french door, all refrigerator, and all freezer configurations.Side-by-side built-in refrigerators are the most common configuration of built-in refrigerators. With a 48" wide side-by-side, the combined refrigerator/freezer capacity is nearly 30 -

American Brand Appliances vs What is made in the U.S.
Having just finished the 4th of July holiday season with all the attending appliance sale events, it should be noted that at least one of the big box stores - the guys who wear orange aprons - had a newspaper tab with a patriotic theme, Red, White, and Blue sale featuring a Korean appliance brand. It might be interesting and worthwhile to look at the landscape of appliance brands and manufacturing to identify the brands by nationality and by where they are manufactured. In other words, which brands are "American" brands and what is manufactured in the U.S. By the way, we mean "made" or "manufactured" to also include assembly. Most manufacturing facilities today are primarily assembly factories where parts are attached to a chassis.American brands of major appliances include Whirlpool and GE as full-line manufacturers. Whirlpool is the largest appliance manufacturer in the world though over half their sales are in the U.S. Their headquarters are in the U.S. and they are listed on the U.S. stock exchange. Whirlpool also makes and sells U.S. appliances under these brand names: Amana, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and Maytag. They claim that over 80% of the appliances they sell in the U.S. are made in the U.S. Though listed on the U.S. stock exchange, GE is a true multi-national, doing business all over the world making and selling everything from jet engines, to nuclear power plants, to major appliances. They are much less of a factor in world wide appliance sales than in the -

Three ways to save on appliances
Here's an explanation of three ways to save on appliances: FREE AppliancesMail-In RebatesInstant Rebates Free Appliance offers usually include a free appliance with the purchase of a specific kitchen appliance or kitchen appliances. For example, purchase a range or a cooktop + wall oven and get a free dishwasher. Sometimes manufacturers parlay the free offer so that if you purchase the necessary appliances to get the free dishwasher you can then purchase a built-in refrigerator and get a free vent hood or add-on appliance such as an icemaker, wine chiller, etc. for free.Mail-In Rebates are offers by appliance manufacturers to refund or "rebate" to consumers a specifc amount when they purchase qualifying appliances such as the KitchenAid appliance rebate below. The consumer must complete a rebate form or certificate, and send it in to the manufacturer along with proof of purchase. It can take up to 8 weeks to get the rebate.Instant Rebates are similar to the Mail-In Rebates above except that the dealer gives the customer the rebate at the time of purchase and gets re-imbursed by the manufacturer. Customers can save up to $2500 on Sub-Zero and Wolf kitchen appliances below. No matter what type of savings are being offered you can save the most by having an appliance expert at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center help you select the appliances that best suit your needs at the lowest total cost. New Design Trend: Appliances where you need them
There's an old kitchen design principle called the work triangle. Refrigerator, range, and dishwasher make up a triangle and need to be located within a certain proximity of each other. But rules are made to be broken and there is a new trend in kitchen design that has appliances being located in new and sometimes unusual locations. For example, Sub Zero and other manufacturers now offer undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers, beverage centers, ice makers, and wine cellars. Families can now use a small refrigerator in a refreshment area so the kids to get cold snacks when they come home from school. Freezers drawers in the pantry area can be used for long term food storage. The entertainment area can feature an ice-maker along with the wine cellar, and dish drawers next to the sink in the wet bar. Microwave drawers, warming drawers, built-in coffee makers, and duct-free downdraft cooktops also open up new location opportunities. The key is that design should be about how you want to live, and not follow outdated rules.
