A Favorite Recipe for Grilling Season
Great Pork Chop Recipe from True-Refrigeration I just love grilling pork chops, but frankly I'm getting tired of using my tried and true grocery store Montreal Grill Seasoning. After a while everything tastes the same. So, I was delighted when I came across this Pork Chop Rub from our friends at True Refrigeration. They seem to be very dialed in with a rub that's going to add some (not too much) heat, as well as the hearty, earthy espresso/coffee flavor from ground coffee beans. We're going to follow this up with a recipe for a nice side dish that will go perfectly with the chops, so check back at this blog in a couple of days. The side dish recipe is also from True Refrigeration. ESPRESSO-RUBBED PORK RIB CHOP MAKES 4 SERVINGS INGREDIENTS 1 tablespoon finely ground coffee or espresso 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper2 teaspoons dark brown sugar 1/8 ground coriander2 teaspoons chili powder 1/8 tablespoon turmeric3/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper (4) 12 oz. pork rib chops or 4lbs. pork tenderloin or loin1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Kosher salt1/2 teaspoon onion powder INSTRUCTIONS Combine all spices, except the salt, in a mixing bowl to create a dry rub. Then, rub the pork on all sides. Cover and refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours. One hour before grilling, pull the pork from the refrigerator and season well on all sides with salt. Let sit at room temperature for an hour while the grill is heating up. Set up your -

New GE Refrigerators
Practical Innovation from GE Appliances We love to write about innovation in appliances, but somtimes we're pointing out exciting new features on brands that are really made for only the top 5% of appliance buyers. Today, we're pleased to write about some innovations on one of America's heritage appliance brands - General Electric. GE is offering new refrigerators with dispensers that operate hands free. In addition, GE has a refrigerator with a dispenser that heats the water. And coming this fall, GE will be launching a Keurig-equipped dispenser that allows you to get your favorite hot drinks right from the fridge. Read below to find out more about these innovative appliances. GE Refrigerators With Hands-Free Water Dispensers Water and ice dispensers are common features on refrigerators, but nearly every water dispenser operates with a button to engage and disengage water flow; overfilling a glass due to human error is inevitable. Technology by GE removes the possibility of a mistake. When a glass, cup, or water bottle is placed on the dispenser tray, sensors monitor the fill rate as water dispenses; no button operation is required to start or stop water flow. GE offers two French door refrigerators with Hands-Free dispensers. Model PYE22PSHSS is a counter-depth refrigerator and model PFE28RSHSS is a full-depth refrigerator. Both units cost about 3,000 dollars. NO MORE WAITING FOR WATER TO BOIL Currently available, our in-the-door hot water dispenser makes it easy for you to pour hot, filtered water in minutes. With four pre-programmed settings for -

President's Day Recognition
Washington's Birthday, Lincoln's Birthday, and More Three Day Weekend and Great Buys on Appliances and Plumbing Fixtures Even after all these years, there is still some confusion over what President's Day really is. In 1885, Congress established the national holiday of Washington's Birthday on February 22nd. Although Lincoln's Birthday, February 12th, had never been a recognized national holiday, it was an official state holiday in several states, and became widely observed through much of the country. In the 1960s there was a movement to create more 3-day weekends by shifting some holidays to Mondays. As part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act passed in 1968, Congress moved Washington's Birthday Holiday from February 22nd to the third Monday in February. President Nixon made it official with an executive order in 1971. While the Uniform Monday Holiday Act had wordage that described this holiday as a day to celebrate both Lincoln's and Washington's birthday, the name of the holiday was never officially changed, and to this day the Federal Calendar calls out the holiday on the third Monday in February as Washington's Birthday. The public, however, not only counts President's Day as a celebration of both Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays, but it is often regarded as a day recognizing all of our deceased presidents. Whatever your preference, President's Day is a 3-day weekend, and an opportunity to check out some great buys on major appliances and plumbing fixtures at Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center. The BEST place for major appliances and plumbing fixtures
Why Universal Appliance and Kitchen Center is YOUR best choice If you're doing your due diligence on where to purchase new appliances and plumbing fixtures, you should consider Universal Appliance an Kitchen Center (UAKC). Here's why: The Other Guys Southern California has its fair share of appliance showrooms. Some focus exclusively on esoteric products, and have luxurious, look-but-don't-touch showrooms. They make you feel as if you need to present your credentials before entering. At the other extreme, you may want to think twice about appliance retailers that advertise with tag lines that say "New and Used" or "We Take Trade-Ins." Just as risky, is going to the big box stores where sales associates wear aprons and sell light-bulbs, and garden supplies along with appliances, and plumbing supplies. The UAKC Difference UAKC does have very nice showrooms (see video below) in great locations. Expect live appliance vignettes, and beautiful designer displays, as well as rows of gleaming appliances. No matter your interests, you're always going to feel at home at UAKC. Even if they don't have valet parking (lol), you're sure to be greeted with a smile by a knowledgable sales associate. At UAKC, you'll find a host of luxury brands such as Wolf, Sub Zero, Viking, Thermador, Miele, etc. available for the most refined and discerning tastes. Rangetop vs Cooktop
Choosing the right cooking surface unit Buying a New Rangetop vs a New Cooktop What?? Aren't rangetops and cooktops really the same thing? No, they're definitely not! For sure, if you ever try to replace a rangetop with a cooktop or vice versa you're going to find out very quickly that they are substantially different. In short, think of a rangetop as the upper portion of a range, including front facing knobs in the cabinet front. Think of a cooktop as a surface unit only, with the knobs on the countertop surface.Though you could find an electric rangetop if you looked hard enough (I think Viking and Electrolux make them), rangetops are most likely to have gas burners rather than electric elements. On the other hand, both gas and electric cooktops are commonly available in nearly all brands. So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each? Well, since rangetops have the knobs in the front, they are very accessible, and make sense in a universal design, or for anyone who might have a difficulty reaching knobs that are on the countertop, especially the knobs in the back. Similarly, you might want to have knobs on the top to keep them away from small children. Remember though, all knobs require a push-and-turn movement to operate regardless of where the knobs are located. Also, If you're trying for a Pro-Style look, the rangetop is going to have more of this professional, restaurant type look. But,
