Viking Turbo Chef Oven
New Viking Turbo Chef oven now in production We've written before about Viking's Turbo Chef oven. It's probably the first new technology in speed cooking for the home since the microwave oven. The air impingement technology is used widely in commercial applications by Viking's parent company, Middleby. However, this will be its first *serious launch for home use by a full-line major appliance company. The Viking Turbo Chef oven uses traditional radiant heating, combined with convection, microwave assist, and powerful Airspeed Technology™. Using patented jetplates on the top and bottom of the oven heated air is forced over the food at various speeds helping the food to cook up to 15 times faster than conventional ovens. How does that translate? Well, a 12 lb. turkey will cook in the Turbo Chef in only 42 minutes; 20 spears of asparagus in just 45 seconds. COMMERCIAL PERFORMANCE 7 Speedcook modes: Bake, Roast, Broil, Air-Crisp, Toast, Dehydrate, and Favorites "Favorites" stores your custom recipes Advanced mode for manual adjustments Microwave, defrost, and standard convection bake modes Accompanying the the Turbo Chef upper oven, is a full-featured 3.8cu.ft. self-cleaning convection oven/proofing oven/warming oven. New trend in appliances
New French-Door OvensFrench-Door ovens for the home have been in various stages of planning for the past 10 to 15 years. They've existed in commercial kitchens for some time, and features from commercial appliances often migrate to the home appliance category. So, it was no surprise to see Viking and GE Monogram introduce French-Door wall ovens last year.Among other high end specialty cooking brands both BlueStar and American Range have introduced French-Door wall ovens. Today, we're going to showcase the latest offering in this category: GE Café's new French-Door wall ovenWe've written about the GE Monogram French-Door wall oven before (New GE Monogram Oven). GE is now also introducing a French-Door wall oven in its Café appliance line. Here are the key features of the new GE Café French-Door wall oven:Self-Clean with Steam-Clean optionYou are probably used to having a self-clean oven so you may be surprised to learn that most of GE's competitors in this category do not offer a self-clean oven even at a much higher price than GE Café. On top of the self-clean feature you can save time and save energy by using GE's Steam Clean feature.True European Convection with Direct AirThere are different types of convection. This GE oven delivers True European Convection which includes a rear convection fan surrounded by an additional convection heating element. The Direct Air feature adds heated air distribution from the top of the oven for the best in even heat, a GE exclusive.Wi-Fi ConnectWith Wi-Fi Connect users can remotely -

Smaller Appliances for Smaller Kitchens
More Appliance Choices for Small Spaces Small homes and condos can find more room in the kitchen with space-saving appliances. Fortunately, the field of smaller appliances has expanded greatly with appliance brands from Europe entering the field. Full size appliances in Europe are made to fit 60mm (24") cabinet widths rather than the 30" dimensions for most U.S. brands. In addition, many "apartment-sized" appliances have typically been de-featured and low-end models. No more. You can now choose from a wide-spectrum of brands from entry level to luxury brands made in more compact sizes. For example, standard dishwashers are designed to fit in a 24" space. However, there are a number of dishwasher brands that offer full-featured dishwashers that fit in an 18" space, such as the Bosch dishwasher. Click on the link below for a full description: Bosch 18" Dishwasher For those, that can't accommodate a full height dishwasher, Fisher & Paykel, as well as others, offer a space-saving dishwasher drawer. In cooking appliances, there are even more choices. Standard widths for ranges are 30", but choices abound in 24" or even 20" sizes. Here's a Bluestar range built for a 24" opening. Many cooktops, and ovens are 30", but here again there are many choices in 24" cooktops and ovens. UAKC, can even help you with a 2 burner cooktop if needed. Take a look at this Italian made Bertazzoni oven and cooktop made to fit a 24" opening. Click on the links below: Bertazzoni 24" Oven Bertazzoni 24" -

Color in your Kitchen
Making Your Kitchen Stand Out with ColorWe see a lot of monochromatic or duochromatic (is that a word?) kitchens these days. White-on-white. White and gray, white and black, etc. Kitchens are likely to have stainless steel appliances, but still there's not much color. Here are some ideas that might help you find a color solution that works best to make your kitchen sparkle:AppliancesIf you'd like to add a splash of color, there are opportunities in appliances such as the Bertazzoni and BlueStar ranges as well as Viking appliances (ranges, refrigerators, dishwashers, etc.). We've written about them in previous blogs. Click the links below for more info:Red Bertazzonis and Ferraris from ItalyAppliance Colors for 2014Bluestar Range ColorsArtworkIf appliances aren't the right option for you, consider artwork to brighten the room. Here's a stunning print from Kaye Menner, that I found on fineartamerica.com. Click the link below to find out more.ColorfulKitchenCollageThis image can also be purchased as a horizontal collage upon request.BacksplashA popular choice for introducing color into a white kitchen is the backsplash. Look at the yellow blacksplash and notice the other yellow accents that bring it all together.Credit: ChrDAUER Architects / Bruce Damonte PhotographyAccent WallAnother option is paint or wallpaper on an accent wall. Pick a wall where there is enough space for the color to make an impact, and go bold.AccessorizeI've been hearing designers talk about "pops" or "splashes" of color for a long time. But when I started paying attention to the photos showing this phenomenon at work, -

50 Shades of Grey in Appliances
Grey Appliances at Universal Appliance and Kitchen CenterThere are many shades of grey in appliances.Even though stainless steel is the dominant color/finish in major appliances, most major appliance manufacturers offer choices in the colors and finishes that they produce, including shades of stainless, silver, and yes of course, grey.Stainless steel itself comes in different grades and types that also look different. Even within a brand or a given model there can be differences. For example, the stainless steel interior of a dishwasher can be an entirely different type of stainless steel and have a different finish than the dishwasher's exterior. Generally, manufacturers try to match the stainless finish on the outside of their appliances, but if you're mixing brands, you could easily find discernible differences in appearance from brand to brand.Frigidaire offers a stainless steel that is smudge-proof. It's real stainless steel that has been treated to prevent the feared fingerprint smudges. It does seem to work quite well. Both GE and Whirlpool have in the past offered lines of faux stainless, eg. painted silver appliances. A quick check of their websites shows a very limited offer of silver or satin appliances. However, GE introduced a line of Slate appliances a couple of years ago, that has become quite successful. It's a shade of grey that you might like very much. It's clearly NOT faux stainless steel and doesn't pretend to be, but it will provide your kitchen with -

Viking Ranges Now Available in 3 Style Series
Viking Tuscany Ranges at UAKC NEW Viking Tuscany Ranges Famous for their cooking products, Viking Range Co. made famous the professional style range built for home use. More recently, Viking D3 appliances were added to the lineup for customers desiring a smoother, contemporary look versus the muscular commercial appearance of the Viking Professional line. Now, Viking has launched a line of ranges made in the town of Scandicci in the Tuscany region of Italy by a subsidiary of Middelby (Viking's parent corp.) It's a great combination of Viking Professional performance with a classic old world look, and a standout in your kitchen. (We like it a lot - the appearance of a historic European Cooker with the performance of a restaurant range). Viking will be offering a limited quantity of Viking Tuscany Ranges in 2015. The ranges will be available in two widths 36" and 48", and will be offered in several different configurations. In addition to the powerful Viking gas burners, options include a French Top, a built-in griddle, and a two burner induction option. Viking will also provide matching vent hoods, and dishwasher panels. The ranges, hoods and dishwasher panels will all be available in a choice of Stainless, Blue, Black, and White. Built with the same high quality standards, durability and attention to detail as all Viking appliances, the Viking Tuscany Ranges are backed by the industry’s best and most comprehensive warranty; the Viking 3-Year Signature Warranty. The Viking 3-Year Signature Warranty now includes a 90 Day -

Luxury Appliance Brands Show Colors at KBIS/IBS 2015
New Appliance Color Shown at KBIS/IBS 2015 Marsala Displayed on High End Appliance Brands Pantone Color Institute® annually designates a color of the year. Last year's color was Blue Orchid. For 2015, the color is Marsala. Appliance brands that feature color in an array of colors to supplement the traditional stainless steel finish have announced that they will be offering appliances in Marsala, and in fact have shown some Marsala appliances at KBIS/IBS 2015 in Las Vegas this past week.BlueStar ranges are often made to order at their factory in Reading, PA. BlueStar claims to offer the largest selection of colors of any appliance manufacturer, 750...now we can say at least 751 different combinations of colors and finishes. Viking ranges, made in Greenwood, Miss. has long offered a wide-selection of colors, and has recently pared it down to about 12 colors. Nevertheless, Viking, also showed a Marsala range as one of its colors in their exhibit at KBIS 2015. Bertazonni, an Italian made cooking brand, has made a big splash with some of their bright colors, and they'll also be adding Marsala to their color selections. Finally, Dacor, a Southern California based appliance company known for its innovation, had a Marsala range on display in their booth at KBIS 2015. See the Marsala Dacor oven pictured below. It certainly looks like the color of this year, Marsala, might be an appliance hit in 2015. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comment section. -

Smarter Appliances in 2015
Time to Get Smart Appliances? The Consumer Electronic Show (CES), and the Design and Construction Week (IBS + KBIS) are all being held this month in Las Vegas. New "smart" appliances are sure to be shown at each venue. What's a "smart" appliance? Maybe not what you think. When the word "smart" is prepended to the word appliance, it usually means that the appliance connects remotely to a device such as a smartphone to allow the device to communicate with the appliance and vice versa. So far, the appeal of smart appliances has been limited. Most of the very early smart appliances didn't do much. So you can control the appliance from your easy chair or maybe even from your car. Not exciting. But much more is on the way. For example, new smart refrigerators can send you a text message to tell you that you left the refrigerator door open. I'm not going to rush out of the house just to buy a new smart appliance...BUT if I'm buying a new appliance, and I can get one with smart capabilities, I won't laugh it off. If my new refrigerator can send me a note telling me that the power to my refrigerator has gone off, I want that! Here are just a few new developments in smart appliances coming soon: GE Currently GE makes smart wall ovens that allow you to pre-heat your oven when you’re on your way home. They're now adding smart appliances including a French door
